Box Score 2 CLAREMORE, Okla. – Cameron University drops a doubleheader on opening day to the reigning National Champions Rogers State 6-0 before falling in game two 4-2 in Claremore at the Diamond Sports Complex.
Robyn Bales got the nod on opening day for the Aggies, throwing 4.2 innings, allowing six runs on four hits while striking out five Hillcats. Stormee Reed threw the final 1.1 innings in relief, giving up four hits with two strikeouts.
Taylor Rowley would go 1-for-3 at the plate in game one. Kaiden Boren, Kelsye Loughman, and Maci McMurtrey also reached base in the game. Boren and Loughman were hit-by-a-pitch while McMurtrey walked.
RSU scored three runs in the second, one in the fourth and two in the fifth to take the first game 6-0.
Josie Swafford got the start in the nightcap, allowing four runs, two earned on four hits, and she struck out five in a complete game loss. She also supplied the offense by driving in the two runs with a double, going 1-for-3 at the plate.
The Black-and-Gold collected six hits from six different Aggies. Joining Swafford with a knock were Boren, Karis Clark, Kylie French, McMurtrey, and Rowley.
Ashlynn Bruce and Alyssa Deanda earned a walk.
Cameron would score their first runs and take a 2-0 lead on a two-run double by Swafford in the top of the fourth.
The Hillcats would tie the game in the bottom half of the innings, with the go-ahead run getting thrown out at the plate by Deanda to end the inning.
Rogers State broke the tie in the sixth with two runs, taking a 4-2 lead.
CU kicks off the Midwestern State Mustang Round-up on Friday with a 2:00 pm game in Wichita Falls, Texas, against Oklahoma Baptist, before facing Northwestern Oklahoma State at 7:00 pm.
