Cameron University was Named Finalist for the 2024 NCAA Division II Award of Excellence

A Grand Slam for the Community

Cameron University has been awarded the At-Large Honoree distinction for a successful community engagement initiative introducing local youth to baseball and softball. The event which was organized by 30 Cameron student-athletes and coaches, welcomed 93 children to experience these sports for the first time.

The free program was held at the Cameron University's softball and baseball fields. It featured various stations where participants learned fundamental skills such as batting, pitching, and fielding. Student-athletes provided one-on-one instruction, fostering a positive first encounter with baseball and softball for the young attendees.

Cameron University partnered with the Oklahoma City Dodgers Foundation to secure equipment and additional support for the event. This collaboration highlighted the potential for productive partnerships between collegiate and professional sports organizations in community outreach efforts.

The initiative's success has led to increased interest in youth baseball and softball within the local community. Cameron University plans to expand the program in the future and potentially offering multiple events throughout the year and developing a mentorship program.

University officials expressed pride in the student-athletes' dedication to community engagement. The At-Large Honoree award recognizes the initiative's significant impact and sets a benchmark for future community outreach efforts by collegiate athletic programs.
