LAWTON, Okla. – Ricky Cramer pitched nine innings of shut out baseball on Friday afternoon as the Cameron Aggies (7-1, 6-1 LSC) put together a 5-0 victory over the Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico (1-7, 0-4).
The game was a pitchers duel early on with each pitcher tossing limited pitches through the first innings.
Cameron got its first run of the ball game in their half of the fourth inning kick started by center fielder
Chase Larsson’s double to right field on the first pitch. Right fielder
Kenny Held took a 1-0 offering through the left side to plate Larsson and get the Aggies on the board.
In the sixth, Held was again at the center of the conversation after drawing a full count walk. Third baseman
Nate Valdez grounded out to the third baseman but it was enough to advance Held up to the top of the diamond.
Short stop
Joe Halley liked his first offering and singled up the crease to bring Held around and give the Ags a 2-0 lead.
Cameron exploded for three runs in the eighth inning to generate insurance runs by the bundle as Larsson again got the scoring going with a single shot to right field that dinged off the foul pole.
Up 3-0, Held drew a full count walk and was then knocked over to second on a Valdez single. Halley flew out to left field for the second out of the inning to bring first baseman
Andrew Garcia to the plate. Garcia hit a sharp line drive to Eastern second baseman Daniel Patching who, rather than tag Valdez for the third out as he came down the line, opted to make an off balance throw to first base. This proved costly as the ball got away from first baseman Mitch Wolfe and allowed Held to come in to make it 4-0.
With Valdez at third, catcher
P.J. Ortega sent a 0-1 ball to right field to bring in Valdez to make it 5-0 Aggies.
The scoring ended from there as Cameron cruised to their sixth league win.
Cramer was tagged with the win, throwing a complete nine innings while allowing just seven hits and striking out four. Eastern’s starter Andrew Martin was tagged with the loss after throwing six complete innings and giving up six hits while striking out three.
The two teams return to action tomorrow at Noon for a scheduled double header at McCord Field. Game one is set for nine innings while game two will be seven innings.
