No. 20 Aggies Rally Falls Short as Bulldogs Take Opener 5-4

The two teams return to the diamond tomorrow at 1 p.m.

LAWTON, Okla. – A three-run sixth inning for the visiting Southwestern Oklahoma Bulldogs (18-6, 14-5 LSC) was the decider as they took a 5-4 victory over the No. 20 Cameron Aggies (13-6, 9-4 LSC) in the opening game of a three-game series this weekend at McCord Field on Friday.

Ricky Cramer (2-2) was tagged with the loss after pitching six complete innings of baseball. Cramer struck out four batters and allowed four earned runs and 12 hits. Senior Jerry Pajak also worked the final three innings and allowed just one hit.

The Bulldogs struck first in the third inning as Tyler Wells tripled to left center to lead off the inning. A Kevin Cantrell sac bunt down the first base line was enough to bring Wells in for the 1-0 lead.

Southwestern added another run in the fourth before the Ags got on the board in the fifth. Taylor Lyons was hit by the 2-1 pitch to reach and advanced to second on a passed ball. Shortstop Joe Halley hit the gap in right field to bring Lyons in to cut the lead to 2-1.

SWOSU padded their lead in the sixth with three more runs on four hits out of a pair of bases loaded situations.

The Aggies began their rally in the bottom half of the inning, down 5-1, with a pair of runs batted in from Lyons and Halley to cut the lead to 5-3.

In the seventh, CU added another run, making it 5-4, as Dalton Hillard punched a sac fly to left field to bring in Kenny Held.

That was as close as it would get at the Southwestern closer came in and shut down the Aggies in order in the eighth and ninth stanzas.

The two teams square off again tomorrow with a 1 p.m.  first pitch for the schedule nine and seven-inning doubleheader at McCord Field.
