Aggies Fall in Regular Season to Finale with Angelo State

LAWTON, Okla. – On a day where the winds shifted back towards home plate, the Cameron Aggies baseball team (30-14, 22-11 LSC) were unable to complete the sweep of the visiting Angelo State Rams (25-23, 19-17 LSC), falling 8-1 on Saturday at McCord Field.

A day after putting up 37 runs over two games yesterday, the Ags were able to muster just one run on five hits to complete their regular season schedule.

Jerry Pajak (2-1) was tagged with the loss after throwing 8.1 innings, his longest outing of the season. The senior threw 8.1 innings on Senior Day when 12 CU seniors played their final home game at McCord Field. He allowed six runs (four earned) on ten hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

The Rams jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first as a Garrett Harris sac fly brought in lead-off man Zach Cohen from third. They added a run one batter latter at Joe Leftridge roped a double into left field to bring in Toby Semler. Zach Klink completed the scoring with a single to right field to bring in Leftridge.

In the fifth, the Aggies got on the board with their only run coming off a Josh Dawson ground out to bring in P.J. Ortega from third.

In the ninth, the Rams added five insurance runs with two being charged to relief pitcher Clay Vanderlaan.

Next up for the Aggies is the 2011 LSC Championship held in Abilene, Texas, home of Abilene Christian who was eliminated from playoff contention yesterday.

The Aggies await the results of Saturday’s games to see where they will be seeded and which team they will play. They can finish no worse than fifth and as high as third going into the championship tournament which begins on Saturday, May 7 at Crutcher Scott Field.
