Cameron Drops Doubleheader To Tarleton

LAWTON, Okla. (April 29, 2012) — Cameron had a hard time on at home Saturday, dropping a doubleheader to Tarleton State 12-0 and 10-5, setting up a must win situation Sunday.

The Texans (24-19, 14-12) ran through a slew of Aggie (22-26, 10-16) pitchers in game one, picking up 12 runs on nine hits, while taking advantage of three Cameron errors. Four of the road team’s runs came on two homeruns.

Cameron struggled to find its rhythm offensively. The Texans’ pitching continued to fool the Aggies, limiting CU to only two hits in the game.

Game two was a different story, as the Black and Gold took a 2-1 lead in the second inning on RBI singles by Jake Harris and Thomas Galvin.

Mike Carlson took the mound in game two and looked good early, allowing only runs through three innings. But in the fourth inning, Tarleton began to find his pitches and picked up four runs off Carlson before he was relieved by Clay Vanderlaan.

Cameron responded to TSU in the home half of the inning, scoring one on a Kevin Lum sacrifice fly scoring Jake Harris to make the score 6-3.

Tarleton scored four more runs over the next three innings to Cameron’s two, to take a 10-4 lead into the final frame. Nick Smith picked up a solo homerun to cut the lead to 10-5, but it was the only offense the Black and Gold could muster in its three outs.

The losses today set up a must win tomorrow in order to keep the Aggies playoff hopes alive. CU can clinch if it wins and Angelo State defeats Abilene Christian.

“If we win and Abilene loses we are in the playoffs,” said Head Coach Todd Holland. “It’s too bad it has to come down to this. We need to come out ready to win, I’ve been saying it all week. We can leave all the other 48 games we played in the past … they are now irrelevant. It all comes down to his 9 inning game.”

The opening pitch is set for 1 p.m. at McCord Field.
