Aggies fall to Greyhounds, 20-10

Box Score

Portales, N.M. – Cameron pitching had little answers for Eastern New Mexico who went off for 20 runs on 19 hits on their way to a 20-10 win over the Aggies on Saturday morning at Greyhound Park in Portales.

The game was originally scheduled as an afternoon doubleheader but because of high winds expected in the region during the afternoon it was decided to play a single nine inning game at 10 a.m. on Saturday and continue with a seven inning doubleheader on March 24 at 11 a.m.

ENMU, (14-10, 2-4 LSC) had seven batters in their lineup who had a multi-hit day the plate, and four with multiple RBI.  Peter Creamer led the Greyhounds collecting three hits, with three RBI, and scoring three runs.

The Aggies (8-14, 2-4 LSC) didn’t going until the sixth inning when they pounded out eight runs off of ENMU reliever, Brian Kennedy. Brandon Raidy gave Cameron four RBI off of two hits, and he would score a run.  Colton Davis came off the bench and gave the Ags a pair of RBIs off a hit.

Brent Hendy (2-2) started the game Cameron tossing 2.1 innings, allowing 10 runs (seven earned) off of nine hits.  He also struck out three Greyhound hitters while walking two.

ENMU scored a quick five spot on CU in the bottom frame in the first.  The inning stared with a pair of strikeouts, however in the second one the batter reached off a wild pitch.  From there the Greyhounds got five hits in a row off of Hendy.

The runs continued in the two next innings for ENMU, putting up three in the second, and two more in the third.

Neither team would put up any offense again until the bottom of the fifth, where Eastern New Mexico dropped their second five spot in the game on Aggie reliever, Will Thomas.  The Greyhounds would start the inning with a single, hit by pitch, single, and walk to score the game's 11th run.  A double down the right field line would follow the walk scoring two more runs for ENMU.  By the end of the inning, the Greyhounds would score two additional runs off of fly outs to lead Cameron 15-0.

In the top frame of the sixth, Cameron came alive pushing across eight runs off of six hits.  Tomas Galvan got the inning started with a leadoff walk, Kenny Acosta would then hit a ground rule double putting himself and Galvan at second and third for Raidy.  Raidy singled into center field scoring both Galvan and Acosta.  Tyler Cox added to the Aggie hit parade singling into left field putting two on with still no outs for Keaton Green.  Green would load the bases off a single through the left side to load the bases.  Following an ENMU pitching change, Colton Davis who came in as a pinch hitter drove a single up the middle to score a run, Nick Smith then would walk, and Kaz Sanders would be hit by a pitch to load the bases.   Galvan in his second at bat of the inning would draw a walk and score Green in from home.  With the bases still loaded Raidy doubled to left field to score two more Aggie runs.  Cameron would close the Eastern New Mexico gap to a 15-8 lead.

The Greyhounds would get a run back in the bottom of the sixth before Cameron knocked in two more runs in the top of the seventh off an Eastern New Mexico error.

The final blow for Cameron though was in the bottom of the seventh that started with a leadoff homer.  The Greyhounds would get four more hits and push across three more runs to end the game under the 10-run rule with only one out recorded in the inning.

Cameron will continue the series with Eastern New Mexico on March 24 with a seven inning double-header starting at 11 a.m.
