Christian Summers was 2-5 for ASU, while Luke Solomon was 1-2 with two runs driven in.
The two teams matched each other through the first four innings. After a scoreless first inning, the two teams got a run apiece. The third inning was another scoreless frame for both teams, but each team got two runs in their half of the fourth.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Aggies matched ASU’s second inning run. Acosta reached second on a one out double and then was moved to third on a Blumer single through the left side. Acosta then scored on a Tomas Galvan sacrifice fly.
Angelo State took the lead with two more runs in the top of the fourth inning after Reidt hit three straight batters to score one run and then a fielder’s choice to the first baseman scored another.
The Aggie offense could not be held quiet in the bottom of the inning. Raidy doubled with one out, and then advanced to third on an Acosta fly out. Blumer then came up and drove in Raidy on a single and then took second after the centerfielder mishandled the ball. Blumer would then score on a ball hit by Galvin that went through the Ram’s third baseman’s legs.
Cameron took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, getting a run on a Smith solo shot to left center.
After a scoreless sixth inning, the Aggies extended their lead in the bottom of the seventh. Kevin Lum led off the inning with a single and then reached second safely after Keaton Green laid down a sac bunt that resulted in a throwing error on the ASU pitcher. After Lum got thrown out at third on a fielder’s choice, Smith singled to right field to load the bases. Raidy then came up with another big hit and drove a 2-1 pitch down the left field line to score Green and Kas Sanders. Acosta then singled in Smith to put the Aggies up 7-3.
If four runs, wasn’t enough of a cushion, Cameron added another insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Galvan walked to lead off the inning and then advanced to second on a sac bunt. He then moved to third on a fly out to right and scored on a passed ball to give Cameron their eighth run of the game.
The Ram’s threatened to start a rally in the top of the ninth inning, loading the bases with two outs, but Raidy got Summers to fly out to center to end the game.
The two teams will play a seven inning double header tomorrow at McCord field, with the first game starting at 1 p.m. and the second to follow.Â
