Softball hosts UT Permian Basin for three game LSC series

LAWTON, Okla. – A week after opening their Lone Star Conference season with a 2-1 series win over Texas Woman's the Aggie softball team will back at McMahon Field for a three game conference series against UT Permian Basin.

Cameron has started of the season 12-4, and has won nine of the last 10 ball games. As a team, they are hitting .322 with a .408 on base percentage and a .574 team slugging percentage. CU has totaled 95 runs and 17 homers on the young season, which is third best in the LSC. They have also stolen 26 bases and have a team a team fielding percentage of .964. In the circle, the Aggies have a team ERA 3.80 in 101.1 innings pitched, with 50 strikeouts and an opponents' batting average of .321.  

Individually, Callie Busby is in the top-10 of the LSC in hitting with a .420 average, and leads CU with 21 hits in 50 at bats. Her sister, Brenna Busby is fourth in the league with a team leading 17 RBI, while C. Busby is ninth with 13. Paige Daino and Kaylyn Smith lead Cameron with 12 runs scored a piece, while Daino is second in the LSC with five homers and has 14 RBI and K. Smith is sixth in the conference and first on the team with seven steals.

Bethany Hines leads CU with an 8-2 record, pitching 64.2 innings with a 4.04 ERA. She has struck out 41 batters, has two saves, and is holding the opposition to hitting .306 against her. Hines is also hitting .351 at the plate with 10 runs scored and seven RBI. Her partner on the CU pitching staff, Alyssa Osterdock is 4-2 on the season with a 6.38 ERA in 36.2 innings pitched.

The Falcons have not started off the season strong, going 3-12 in the first month of play so far. They are 1-2 in LSC play after losing two out of three against Midwestern State last week. UTPB is hitting .239 as a team, with a .304 on base percentage and a .319 slugging percentage. They have scored just 40 runs this season and have six homers. In the circle, Permian Basin has a team ERA of 7.90 with 53 total strikeouts and an opponents' batting average of .338.

Adrianna Berzoza leads the Falcons with 13 hits, while Melissa Zuniga has 12. Daisy Aguilar is tied with Berzoza with two homeruns, while also leading UTPB with seven RBI and seven runs scored. Kylee Foster is 2-4 with a 6.49 ERA in 34.2 innings pitched, while Chelsae Faries is 0-1 with a 5.31 ERA in 20.1 innings.

The two teams will play a doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 24 starting at 1 p.m. and then will conclude the series with a single game on Saturday, Feb. 25 also starting at 1 p.m.
