LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University softball team will travel to Edmond, Okla. to take on Oklahoma Christian in a mid-week non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday.
The Aggies are now 15-4 overall this season after sweeping UT Permian Basin last weekend in a three game series that improved their Lone Star Conference record to 5-1.
Breezy McComas led CU at the plate, batting .636 with two homers, two doubles, five runs scored, and seven RBI. She also made her college debut in the circle, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up just two hits and striking out one Falcon batter.
Bethany Hines had dominating weekend in the circle, pitching 11.2 innings, giving up just two runs on six hits, striking out 13 with no walks, and holding her opponent to a .143 batting average.
On the season, CU as a team is hitting .331 with 115 runs scored and 21 homers. They have a team fielding percentage of .964 and have stolen 36 bases. In the circle, The Aggies have a team ERA of 3.40, with 67 total strikeouts and a .302 opponent's batting average.
With her two homers this past weekend, McComas is now tied with teammates
Brenna Busby and
Paige Daino for fifth in the LSC in homers with five. She is also just three long balls shy of tying the Cameron record for homers in a career, which is 43, held by
Sonora Zukerman and Leslie Martini. McComas currently leads CU in hitting with a .426 batting average, while B. Busby has a team best 20 RBI and McComas and Daino are tied for first on the team with 16 runs scored a piece.
Hines leads the LSC in innings pitched, wins, and saves; her 54 strikeouts are third best in the conference.  Her partner on the CU staff,
Alyssa Osterdock also ranks in the top-10 in the league in wins and innings pitched.
Cameron faces Oklahoma Christian, who is 8-8 so far this season. They most recently got shutout in a doubleheader against Central Oklahoma losing 3-0 and 4-0. As a team OC is hitting just .253, with 53 runs scored and five homers. However, they have been strong in the circle, with a team ERA of 2.20 and 66 total strikeouts.
Kaylie Upton is the lone Eagle batting over .300, as she has a team best .342 batting average. Sheridan Bond leads OC with nine runs scored, while Bridget White leads the team with nine RBI and two homers. Madison Hagood leads the pitching staff with 42.2 innings pitched, totaling a 3-3 record, a 1.80 ERA, and 36 strikeouts. Madison Nordyke is 3-4 on the season with a 2.63 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 37.1 innings pitched.
Following the doubleheader on Tuesday, the Aggies will resume conference play with a three game series at Texas A&M-Commerce this weekend, March 3-4.Â
