LAWTON, Okla. – The Aggie softball team, who has won 16 of their last 18 games, will face Tarleton State for three game Lone Star Conference battle.
Cameron is now 8-1 in LSC play, after sweeping Texas A&M-Commerce in a three game series last weekend. After winning a close one in game one, CU put up nine runs in both the second and third game to total for 24 runs in the series. Their success has led them to be receiving votes in this week's release of the Division II NFCA Top-25 poll.
On the season, the Aggies are batting .312 with 145 runs scored and 25 homeruns. They have also gone 45-63 on the base paths and have a team fielding percentage of .962. In the circle, CU has a combined ERA of 3.22 with 87 strikeouts and an opponent's batting average of .304.
Leading the charge at the plate is
Breezy McComas, who is hitting .415 with a team-high 20 runs scored, 27 hits, five homers, and 18 RBI. She ranks in the top-10 of the LSC in runs, homers, and a variety of other categories. Leading CU and ranking in the top-10 in homers and RBI is freshman
Brenna Busby, who has six homers and 23 RBI on the season, while her sister
Callie Busby has 22 RBI.
In the circle,
Bethany Hines has been the Aggies workhorse, pitching a LSC best 99 innings and recording the most wins in the league with 14. She has an ERA of 2.83, with 73 strikeouts and an opponent's batting average of .288. She also has collected 16 hits, 17 runs scored, and eight RBI at the plate.
Tarleton State has battled a tough schedule the past few weeks, splitting a doubleheader with no. 3 St. Mary's , taking two out of three against no. 11 West Texas A&M, and most recently sweeping a doubleheader against no. 20 Lubbock Christian on Tuesday of this week. However, earlier this season, they lost two out of three against the TAMUC Lions, who CU just swept in three games.
TSU is batting .329 with 142 runs scored and just five homers, but are 33-36 on the base paths. In the circle, they have a team ERA of 2.34 with 114 strikeouts and an opposing batting average of .279. This past week the TexAnns swept the LSC weekly honors as Nyka Wood was named Hitter of the Week and Haley Freyman was named Pitcher of the Week.
The TexAnns are led at the dish by Maddie Quintar, who has a .422 ERA and leads the LSC with 38 hits on the season. She also leads them with 28 runs scored, while Wood leads the team and is second in the conference with 31 RBI.
The pitching staff for TSU is one of the best in the league with both Freyman and Jordan Withrow ranking in the top-10 in ERA, strikeouts, and opponent's batting average. Freyman is 9-4 with a 1.95 ERA in 97 innings pitched with 46 strikeouts, while Withrow and Kayleigh Williams combining to go 6-6 so far with 30 earned runs given up in a combined 68.2 innings with 30 combined strikeouts.
Due to the chance of rain, the original schedule has been adapted so that the teams will play a doubleheader beginning at noon of Friday, March 10 and then conclude the series with a single game on Saturday, March 11 beginning at 2 p.m. if weather permits. Â Â
