Aggies host No. 1 Rambelles to close out regular season

LAWTON, Okla. – The Aggie softball team will host No. 1 Angelo State to close out the regular season April 28-29 at McMahon Field.

Due to a potential for inclement weather, the game times have been moved up to a Friday double header starting at 1 p.m. and a series finale slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday. Additionally, the Aggies will be honoring their seniors before the first game on Friday.

Cameron is coming off a three game road sweep of Western New Mexico as they moved to 32-15 overall and 20-6 in the Lone Star Conference.

In game one, CU played ten innings with Brenna Busby hitting a solo homer to win 8-7. In game two, B. Busby had five RBI as the Aggies won 12-3 in five innings. Bethany Hines broke the CU single-season record for wins in game three as the team won 2-1 to complete the series sweep.

Hines earned wins in each game culminating with the school record breaking 24th win in the series finale while posting a 1.43 ERA and four earned runs on the weekend.  She is 24-6 on the year and leads the league in innings pitched with 195.1 innings and is fifth nationally in number of wins.

On offense, B. Busby hit .385 with six RBI and two homers against the Mustangs. Callie Busby had four hits and two RBI, Breezy McComas four hits and Paige Daino with four hits and four RBI including a solo home run.

Daino's solo shot brings her to 44 home runs, just one behind McComas' 45 who is the current career home run record holder at CU.

As a team, Cameron is in the top-20 nationally in home runs per game and third in the LSC. They are first in the league in triples, and Daino is No. 20 nationally in walks and No. 25 in home runs, which is also fourth best in the conference.

The Aggies/Rambelles series will be a regional battle as ASU sits No. 1 and CU No. 5 in the South Central rankings.

Cameron will go head-to-head with a tough ASU (49-4, 24-3 LSC) pitching staff that has the league's top two pitchers who were recently named to the top-25 NFCA player of the year finalist list in Brandy Marlett and Kenedy Urbany.

Marlett completed a sweep of Texas A&M-Commerce with a 1.00 ERA while striking out 37 including 12 and 17 against the Lions. Urbany got one of those wins and struck out ten herself in the circle while being a dual threat at the plate batting .467 with seven hits, one double and two home runs.

Marlett (1.18) and Urbany (1.06 ERA) are in the top-15 in the nation in best ERA individually and help their squad rank amongst the top five in team ERA nationally as well. Marlett is also fifth in the nation in strikeouts and fourth in number of wins.

Morgan Hill is the first in the league and seventh in the nation in saves for the Rambelles, and they have the fourth best shutout number in the nation and most in the LSC.

At the plate, ASU is led by Courtney Barnhill (.403) who has 12 home runs on the season.

The Rambelles enter the series on a 14 game streak and the Aggies three games.
