Week 7 Game Notes
Starting 5:
1. In Cameron's last five games,
Maighan Hedge has averaged 21.4 points per game, including two 21-point games and two 26-point outings; the freshman now has seven 20-point games this season.
2. Against West Texas A&M, the Aggies made 13 three pointers, marking the 10th time they have recorded 10+ shots from the perimeter in 2018-19;
Ava Battese made six of those, her eighth game with five or more threes in her career.
3. Texas A&M-Commerce leads the Lone Star Conference with 77.4 points per game, and is ranked ninth in the nation with 17 offensive rebounds per game.
4. Tarleton State's Kaylee Allen and Mackenzie Hailey combined for 46 points in their rout of Texas A&M-Kingsville last week; Allen has four 20-point outings this season while Hailey has three.
5. The TexAnns lead the LSC and are ranked in the top-20 of Division II in steals per game (11.5) and also lead the league with a 74.5 free throw percentage, going 313-420 from the line this season.
Week 6 Recap:
Cameron broke their trend of four straight 1-1 weeks by losing to both Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M last week. They now sit in eighth place in the LSC standings with a 4-8 conference record and a 7-13 overall mark. Against ENMU, CU led by six points at the half, making 9-13 shots from three during the first 20 minutes of play. They slowed in the second half, going just 1-9 from three in the two point loss. Hedge led CU with 21 points while
Chelsea Heidebrecht added 14. Cameron may have played one of their best games of the season against the No. 14 ranked Lady Buffs, shooting 45.9 percent from the field, going 13-26 from three, and 9-9 from the foul line. However, WT scored 46 points in the paint and shot over 56 percent from the floor in the win. Hedge, Battese, and Halbleib combined for 68 of CU's 75 points.
About the Aggies:
Cameron is averaging 70.9 points per game with a -6.1 scoring margin. They are shooting right at 40 percent from the field, hitting 35.7 percent of their three point shots and 66.7 percent of their foul shots. They are ranked No. 1 in the LSC and are in the top-20 nationally in three pointers made (190), attempted (531), and averaged (9.5). Hedge is ranked fourth in the LSC with 15.5 points per game, to go along with a 2.8 assists and 2.4 rebounds per night.
Natalie Halbleib averages 13.8 assists and a team-best 7.0 rebounds while Battese and
Parfitt McNair both average just under 10 points.
Scouting the Lions:
After splitting their games last week against the Javelinas and Angelo State, Texas A&M-Commerce is now 13-7 on the season and 8-4 against league foes. They are outscoring their opposition by 11.9 points, averaging 77.4 points per game while shooting 40.9 percent from the field, 31.3 percent from three, and 69.4 percent from the free throw line. The Lions also out-rebound the competition by 8.8 and average 15 assists, 9.8 steals, and 2.9 blocks. Chania Wright leads the team with 13.3 points per game, while Princess Davis chipped in 12.7 per outing. Davis also leads the team with an average of 4.9 assists and 1.6 steals, and Tac Agang averages a TAMUC-best 6.9 rebounds per game.
Last Time Against TAMUC:
On Jan. 5, the Lions came into the Aggie Gym and went to the line 40 times (32-40) as they came away with an 86-67 win. On the other end of the court, Cameron went to the line just 11 times and 6-24 from three point range. Commerce held a 10 point lead at halftime and then used a 24-10 third quarter to build up their big lead. Six Lion players scored in double-figures, with Alexis Bryant leading the way with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Chania Wright also had 16 points. McNair led the Aggies with 17 points in the loss while Hedge had 11 points and Battese chipped in 10; McNair and Battese each had a team-high eight rebounds against TAMUC.
Scouting the TexAnns:
Tarleton State enters their second contest against the Aggies this season with a 14-6 overall record and a 7-5 league mark after splitting games against TAMUK and ASU last week. They are 9-1 at home and have four of their last five games. TSU averages 73.4 points per game, 8.9 points better than their opposition. They are shooting over 43 percent from the field and hit three pointers at a 33.8 percent clip. The TexAnns force 20 turnovers a game with 11.5 steals per outing. McKinley Bolstad, who did not play against CU earlier this season, leads the team with 15.2 points per game and averages 4.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.4 steals. Allen is also averaging 15.0 points for Tarleton State, while Hailey averages 14.5 and a team-best 6.9 rebounds and Katie Webster chipped in 10.8 points per game.
Last Time Against TSU:
Cameron notched their first Lone Star Conference win against the TexAnns on Jan. 3. CU made 14 three pointers as they outscored TSU 21-12 in the first quarter and 27-17 in the third to earn the 83-79 win. Battese tied a program record with eight three pointers (8-13), scoring 27 points to lead Cameron. Hedge also had a strong game, scoring 21 points and collecting eight assists, while McNair added 11 points and Smith had nine points and 10 rebounds. Tarleton was 16-18 from the free throw line, but went just 5-19 from three in the loss. Three TexAnns scored 20+ points with Allen leading the way with 26, Webster adding 21, and Hailey scoring 20.

The Aggies will be on the road for their next five games, starting with a trip to Texas A&M-Commerce on Feb. 7. They will then make a visit to Tarleton State on Feb. 9, before heading to UT Permian Basin, Western New Mexico, and MSU Texas before their next home game.
