About the Aggies:
Cameron opened up their 2019 season winning two out of three against Texas A&M-International last weekend. After earning a 2-0 win in game one of the series, CU outlasted the Dustdevils 6-5 in 15-inning marathon. They then wrapped up the series with a 7-1 loss in game three.
Â
Not much happened at the plate for CU in their season opening series, as they hit just .211 as a team with only nine runs scored and a combined seven RBI. They were led at the plate by
Izrael Trevino, who hit .333 with four runs score and four RBI, accounting for all but one of CU's runs for the series. Â The junior first baseman had two homers, a triple, and a double to give him a .933 slugging percentage. Additionally,
Trey Bigford tallied four hits and three RBI, while
Colton Adams notched three hits, two of which were doubles.
Â
Cameron was most impressive on the mound, where the combined for a 3.60 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 30 innings of work.
Sean Maher was dominant, posting a 0.00 ERA with eight K's in 5.0 innings of work. His effort for CU earned him Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week honors on Tuesday.
Devin Castro posted a strong 5.1 inning start where he gave up just three hits and struck out five, while
Andrew Garza gave up just one run and struck out five in 6.1 innings of work.
Â
Scouting the Chaps:
Lubbock Christian participated in the first pitch invitational in Edmond, Oklahoma and came out of the weekend 2-1. The same record the Aggies hold now after their 2-1 series win over Texas A&M International. The Chaps beat Emporia State and Central Oklahoma before falling to Missouri Southern in the tournament finale to open their season. Through three games, the Chaparrals hit for a .273 average. The team hit four home runs on their way to scoring 15 total runs on the weekend.
          Â
At the dish, LCU was led by (minimum of ten at bats) James Hardberger who turned in a .385 average, plating five runs and scoring four himself with two home runs to add to his resume. On the bump, Lubbock Christian has a bullpen ace of their own in Shandon Herrera, who earned a save and has not allowed a run through three innings. Their best starter last weekend was Ricky Contreras, the senior from Lubbock, Tex. threw eight innings of one run ball last weekend and opponents had a .185 batting average against the right-handed hurler.
Â
On Deck:
Up next for the Cameron Aggies, they will take on UT Tyler at McCord Field for their home opening series starting next Friday at 7 p.m. under the lights, which were added late last season.
