Scouting the Buffs:
West Texas A&M has started the year on fire, the Buffs are a 17-3 ball club entering the weekend and riding the wave of a four game winning streak. At home, they have just one blemish on their resume holding an 8-1 home record their only slip up being a 7-2 loss against Regis University.
          Â
The Buffs have a few power bats, with four players who have clubbed over two home runs apiece, with a team total of 19 home runs. Senior utility man Christian Loya leads the way at the plate with four home runs, with 14 RBI's and a .636 slugging percentage. His .403 on base percentage is near the bottom of the Buffs lineup, which shows how productive they are at the plate. Senior backstop Kyle Kaufman has been a stable in the Buffs lineup, playing and starting in all 20 games for West Texas A&M he leads the team in batting average (minimum ten at bats) with a .437 average. Kaufman has already hit three home runs and has plated a team high 22 runs. Kaufman also leads the team in total bases, doubles, hits, runs scored, on base percentage (minimum ten at bats) while striking out just three times this season.
          Â
On the mound, Joe Corbett, the right handed senior hurler from Edmond, Okla. leads the way. Corbett has tossed a team high 31 innings to the tune of a 1.45 ERA, and a perfect 4-0 record across five starts. Corbett leads the team in strikeouts with 45 while walking just four batters all year. Out of the bullpen, Dominic Yearego has made nine appearances with a sub two ERA to show for it. The right handed Senior has registered five saves so far this season, while hitters struggle against him only hitting for a .146 average. Yearego has issued seven walks, three wild pitches, and a pair of hit batters, which could be a way for the speedy Black and Gold to strike.
