LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron baseball team will look to continue their strong start to the Lone Star Conference season as they host Texas A&M-Kingsville for a four game set, March 29-31.

About the Aggies:
In their Lone Star Conference opening series, Cameron won three out of four games at Tarleton State. They scored 48 runs in the series, winning games three-four 20-1, 11-4, and 15-11. CU is now 12-17 overall this season and 3-1 in league play. They are also 4-5 in games played at McCord Field.
The Aggies are hitting .249 as a team with 188 runs scored and 64 extra-base hits, 17 of which have been home runs.
Izrael Trevino leads the team with a .302 average, 32 hits, and 30 runs scores.
Dillon Turney and
Pierce Khan are both hitting over .290, while Khan leads the Aggies with six homers and 33 RBI. Cameron ranks eighth in the nation with 163 walks drawn and their 44 hit by pitch total is 11th in DII.
On the mound, CU has a combined ERA of 6.54 with 228 strikeouts in 234.0 innings of work having used 18 pitchers.
Devin Castro has started eight games, posting a 4.04 EAR with 36 K's in 42.1 innings on the mound.
Gaige Vines has a 5.11 EAR in 24.2 innings, and is coming off a one-hitter against Tarleton State.
Sean Maher leads the squad with 15 appearances, striking out 33 hitters in 23.0 innings.
Andrew Garza leads CU with 38 strikeouts compared to just nine walks in 35 innings pitched.
Scouting the Javelinas:
After a strong finish to the 2018 season, Texas A&M-Kingsville have continued that momentum into this year's campaign, going 19-9 to start the season. They are coming off a 3-1 series win over No. 5 West Texas A&M last weekend with 8-0, 5-4, and 7-3 wins.
As a team, the Javelinas are hitting .305 with 238 runs scored and 78 extra-base hits. They rank top-20 in Division II in multiple stat categories including steals (84), triples (11), and walks (139). Seth Spinn leads the way with a .430 batting average, 37 runs scored, and 16 stolen bases. Giancarlo Servin, Manny Loredo, and Pablo Hernandez are all batting over .300, with Servin leading the team and the LSC with 34 RBI on the season.
Zach Boyett and Preston Plovanich have been TAMUK's most consistent starters in 2019. Boyett is 3-2 in six starts with a 3.07 ERA. He has also struck out 21 batters in 29.1 innings on the mound. Plovanich is 3-4 with a 4.66 ERA in seven starts. He leads the team with 40 strikeouts and hold opposing hitters to a .223 batting average. Eric Sandoz and Alexander Garrett are both solid options out of the bullpen. Sandoz is 4-0 with three saves and 21 strikeouts in 19.2 innings of work, while Garrett leads the team with 10 appearances and has also struck out 21 hitters in just 17.2 innings on the mound.Â

Following their four games against the Javelinas, Cameron will continue their tough LSC schedule by visiting No. 11 Angelo State for four games, April 5-7.
