The LSC Baseball Championship will be hosted by the No. 2 seed West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas, May 9-11. The field includes top seed and regular season champion Angelo State, WT, Texas A&M-Kingsville, CU, UTPB, and Tarleton State.Â
After dropping the first three games of their final regular season series against No. 13 WT last weekend, the Aggies knew they would be facing the Falcons in the first round, but a walk-off win in the final game gave them their fourth place finish in the league standings over UTPB, who finished fifth.
Cameron and Permian Basin are very familiar with each other this season, playing a four game non-conference series in early March and four more just a few weeks ago. The Falcons own a 3-5 series lead over CU, including winning three out of the last four conference matchups.
Against UTPB, the Aggies are hitting .247 with 49 runs scored, 16 doubles, three, triples, and two homers. They also have a combined 5.16 ERA with 55 K's in 66.1 innings.
Hayden Jaco,
Gaige Vines, and
Sean Maher all have under two ERA's against the Falcons this season, while
Pierce Khan is batting .323 with 10 hits, five doubles, and 10 RBI against UTPB pitching.
Should Cameron take down the five seed Permian Basin in the first round, they would go on to face top seed Angelo State in the tournament semifinals. CU struggled against the No. 1 ranked Rams in their regular season series, as they were outscored 61-14 in the four game span.
Myles Miller and
Dillon Turney both hit .500 in the series with Miller driving in four RBI with a pair of homers.
This season against the rest of the field (TAMUK, WT, and TSU), the Black and Gold went 7-9, with a 7-5 conference record, led at the plate by
Briton Schiewe, Khan, and
Izrael Trevino with a combined 10 homers and 46 RBI over that 16 game schedule.
