LAWTON, Okla. – The Aggie baseball team will look to build on their first series win as they hit the road to take on the red-hot No. 22 ranked UT Tyler Patriots for a four-game set this weekend, Feb. 28-March 1.
Â
Cameron won three out of four games against Texas A&M International last weekend and are now 4-10 on the season. However, a tough test awaits them in Tyler as the 12-2 Patriots have exceled during their first four weeks in Division II.
Â
Last weekend, the Black and Gold enjoyed their most run production of any series scoring over five runs in three of the four games, including their highest mark of the season on Sunday when the team posted 12 runs.
Â
The Aggies are batting .226 as a team with 60 runs scored and 35 extra-base hits, 16 of which were home runs, the third highest in the Lone Star Conference this season. Leading the way is backstop
Cooper Edwards, who is hitting .355 on the year.
Izrael Trevino has provided the power through 14 games, hitting .286 with five homers and seven RBI, while Clem has a team-high 10 RBI and three long balls.
Â
Cameron's struggled have been on the mound, where they turn in a 9.88 team ERA with just 66 strikeouts in 102 innings of work. Starters
Brody Curry and
Michael Womack both have over 15 K's in four appearances, but neither have yet to record a win.
Tyler Garcia and
Kalen Haynes have both showed promise for CU, while Clem contributes on the mound as well, recording the team's first save last weekend. Â
Â
UT Tyler turns in an impressive 12-2 record, with their two losses coming to fellow LSC newcomers, UAFS and Oklahoma Christian. The Patriots are off to a fast start in their first year of Division-II ball, earning sweeps against soon to be Division-I bound Tarleton as well as Eastern New Mexico.
Â
At the dish, UTT is led by Jordan Gochenour who turns in a .407 batting average, with three homers and 18 RBIs. The Sophomore from Houston, Tex. will prove to be a tough out for the Aggie hurlers. The powerful Patriot lineup does not end with Gochenour, as UT Tyler sees five players who have started all 14 games for the Patriots turn in a .300 batting average or better. The UTT lineup has already scored 122 runs and clubbed 20 homers.
Â
Lukas Polanco brings pop to the Patriot lineup posting seven extra-base hits including five homers, a team-high 18 RBIs and earning nine walks on his way to a .452 OBP.
Â
On the bump, the Patriots have turned in a 3.52 team-ERA, with Reagen MacDonald leading the staff. MacDonald has pitched a team-high 21 innings, to the tune of a 4.22 ERA, and has punched out 27 batters.
Â
UT Tyler will also turn to Garrett Arredondo who has already made four starts for the Patriots with 18 innings pitched. Arredondo has produced a 0.96 ERA, with 24 strikeouts, and has held opposing batters to a sub-.200 average.
Â
