Baseball set for home debut against ENMU

LAWTON - The Cameron Aggie baseball team is set to make home their debut as they host Eastern New Mexico for a three-game set at McCord Field.

The Aggies finally got their season underway a weekend ago when they traveled to Canyon, Tex. to take on the then-12th ranked West Texas A&M Buffs. In that series, the Aggies went 1-2, with their lone win coming in game one of the set. That win served as the first win away from McCord Field for CU head coach Kyle Williams. However, Williams has maintained that this team is built for McCord Field, and will find a lot of success in the friendly confines. The Black and Gold finally get to start their home slate on Friday, Feb. 25th at 12 p.m. against Eastern New Mexico.

At McCord Field a year ago, the team finished one game above .500 (6-5) and played their best baseball in Lawton, Okla. On a two-game skid, the Aggies welcome in ENMU who is on a 5-game losing streak and continues their make-shift season that does not seem them playing at home all season.

ENMU is 0-5 with a pair of losses to West Texas A&M and a trio of losses against St. Edward's. The Hounds have never scored more than four runs in a single game, while the Aggies have been held under 5 runs once so far this season. The Hounds hurlers have only had one game that they have held their opponent under double-digit runs, a feat the Aggies have yet to accomplish.

CU is led at the plate by Beau Williams who turns in a .500 batting average after the first weekend of the ball, collecting a hit in all three games so far for CU, Williams has been critical in the Black and Gold lineup.

At the dish, Jayce Clem and Ryan Carter have provided a ton of power posting a slugging percentage of .818 and 1.000 respectively. The two combine for 11 of the Aggies 19 RBIs. They both slapped home runs during the three-game set with the Buffs.

On the hill, the Aggies did not find success. None of the three CU starters from a weekend ago made it through the third inning. Tyler Cornett came the closest, tossing 2.2 innings of six-hit ball as he allowed four runs but earned five strikeouts.

Every Aggie hurler that has completed at least an inning, has given up a run or more. The lone Black and Gold pitcher to not allow a run was Julian Macias who only tossed two-thirds of an inning, but got out of it unscathed.

Nik Sanchez will try to keep his three-game hitting streak alive over this weekend, as the Aggie backstop turns in an above .400 batting average, five hits, and scored a pair of runs last weekend.

The Aggies and Hounds get this series underway Friday, Feb. 25, at 12 p.m. at McCord Field in Lawton, Okla. for a doubleheader on Friday. The two squads will face off again Saturday, again at noon, to conclude the three-game set.
