CU hosts Bulldogs for non-conference battle

LAWTON – The Cameron baseball team opens a home-and-home series against non-conference foe Southwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday afternoon.

The Aggies step away from Lone Star Conference play on Tuesday, hosting the Bulldogs at McCord Field for the first of two non-conference games this season.  

Cameron is coming off a three-game series loss to St. Mary's where they allowed 33 runs and scored just 12 of their own over the weekend at home. Jordan Harrison-Dudley led the Black and Gold at the plate, hitting .571 with eight hits, including a four-hit game on Friday. Jayce Clem was responsible for four of CU's 11 RBI over the series while hitting .400, while Beau Williams drove in three more runs on four hits. Cameron used 15 pitchers in the series with seven contributing scoreless outings.

On the season, the Aggies are batting .246 with 125 runs scored and 75 extra-base hits, 29 of which have been round-trippers. Clem leads the way with a .404 clip at the plate and is second in the conference with nine home runs this season. Williams and Harrison-Dudley are both over .300 in batting average and are tied for second on the team with 17 RBI each.

Southwestern Oklahoma State enters the non-conference battle with a 14-10 record this season and are 12-9 in the Great American Conference. They are hitting .342 with 200 runs scored and have 29 long-balls this year. The pitching staff sports a 5.65 ERA with combined 201 strikeouts and a .263 opponents' batting average.

Drew White, Zach Baxley, and Alex Bedard pace the offensive attack for SWOSU. White and Baxley are both hitting over .400, while Bedard leads the team with 32 runs scored, 40 hits, and 22 stolen bases. White also has a team-best five homers this season with 28 RBI.

On the mound, Nate Postlethwait leads the team with 45 strikeouts and is 5-1 in seven starts this season. Ryan Hilder, and Elgin, Okla. product, is the top arm out of the bullpen, making 10 appearances, striking out 23 batters and recording four wins.

The meeting between in-state foes is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at McCord Field and will be streamed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network. The two teams will meet again in Weatherford on April 20.
