Baseball visits Lubbock Christian for three

LAWTON – The Cameron baseball returns to Lone Star Conference action this weekend with three-games at Lubbock Christian.

The Aggies are looking to snap nine-game winning streak, which was extended on Tuesday in a 2-1 loss to non-LSC foe Southwestern Oklahoma State. The CU pitchers limited the Bulldogs to just five hits, the least since Feb. 26, but the offense was limited to the same and struck out 13 times in the low-scoring contest.

Cameron enters the weekend in Lubbock, Texas with a .243 batting average, 126 runs scored, and 75 extra-base hits. Jayce Clem leads the way with a .388 average, nine homers, and 21 RBI this season. Beau Williams is batting .309 with 17 RBI and three homers, the same as Jordan Harrison-Dudley, who is batting .290 for the Aggies.

On the mound, CU owns a 9.19 ERA with 216 combined strikeouts in 220.1 innings of work. Clem has a team-best .236 opponents batting average with 23 K's in just 13.2 innings. Marcos Feria leads the squad with 49 strikeouts to go along with a .248 OBA in eight starts, while Tyler Cornett has 34 punch-outs in seven starts.

Lubbock Christian is coming off a three-game sweep of Easter New Mexico last weekend, out-scoring the greyhounds 43-8. They are 11-16 on the season and 10-14 in LSC action. At the plate LCU is batting .287 with 192 runs scored and 102 extra-base hits, 31 of which were long-balls. The pitching staff has combined for a 5.80 ERA with 217 strikeouts in 231.1 innings of work.

Catcher and reigning LSC Hitter of the Week, Luis Navarro leads the team with a .410 average, six homers, and 29 RBI this season. Four other hitters own an above .300 average, with Eduardo Acosta hitting .359 with five homers and 25 RBI. Freshman Owen Woodward leads LCU with a 1.78 ERA in nine appearances, mostly in relief. In nine starts, Armando Valle leads the team with 54 strikeouts and 45 innings of work.

The three-game set starts with one game on Friday, April 16, at 6 p.m. at Hays field and will conclude with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 17, starting at 1 p.m. All three games will be streamed via the LSC Digital Network.
