Cameron wraps up series with SWOSU

LAWTON – Cameron wraps up their non-conference home-and-home series against Southwestern Oklahoma State on Wednesday.

The Aggie baseball team is coming off their first win since March 26 last Saturday when they came back from a 7-1 deficit to beat Lubbock Christian 9-8 in the final game of the series. They visit SWOSU on Wednesday in a rematch of a pitcher's duel that was played at McCord Field on April 13.

In the first meeting between the in-state, non-conference foes, Cameron deployed seven pitchers to the mound with none of them giving up more than one run during their outing. The Aggie staff combined to give up just five hits, walked three, and struck out five Bulldog hitters. However, the opposing staff was just as good, as five hurlers held the CU bats to five hits as well and recorded 13 strikeouts in the one-run win.

Cameron enters the mid-week battle batting .237 with 138 runs scored and 82 extra-base hits, including 29 homers. Jayce Clem, who missed the entire series against LCU, leads the team with a .388 average with nine homers and 21 RBI. Jordan Harrison-Dudley has been one of the Aggies' hottest hitters this month, batting .409 with 18 hits, nine runs scored, seven doubles, two homers, and eight RBI since the beginning of April. Beau Williams (.284) is the only other CU player batting over .270 on the season.

On the mound, Drew Henderson has had three-straight solid outings, including a four inning effort against LCU in which he gave up just one run on five hits to secure the win. He also gave up just one run on one hit with three strikeouts in the first game against SWOSU. Joseph Flood has made five straight scoreless appearances out of the CU bullpen, and Tyler Gregg recorded his first save of the year by pitching two no-hit innings in the win over the Chaps

Southwestern followed up their one-run win over the Aggies last week with a three-game sweep of Arkansas Tech over the weekend. They are now batting .337 with 222 runs scored and 106 extra-base hits, including 29 homers. Drew White had a big weekend, totaling seven hits and five RBI against ATU, and is now batting .441 this season. Alex Bedard also had seven hits during the weekend series, scoring six runs and driving in two more.

The Bulldogs' staff own a 5.15 ERA with 228 combined strikeouts and a 2.64 opponents' batting average. One of their wins last weekend came in a 1-0 shutout in which Nate Postlethwait went the distance with just six hits given up and five strikeouts. Haden Branch, the squad's top bullpen arm, pitched another scoreless outing against ATU and now has a 2.65 ERA in 17.0 innings of work.

Wednesday's meeting between the two Oklahoma programs is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at the SWOSU Baseball Field in Weatherford. Live stats and video will be available via links on cameronaggies.com.
