Softball alters schedule, hosts No. 3 UT Tyler on Sunday

LAWTON – The Cameron softball team has moved their doubleheader against No. 6 Texas A&M-Commerce due to forecasted inclement weather on Friday.

The Aggies entered the week set for a pair of Lone Star Conference battles against top-10 ranked opponents in the Lions and UT Tyler. The doubleheader against A&M-Commerce was scheduled for 4 p.m. on Friday, but has since been rescheduled to Monday, May 3, starting at 1 p.m. at McMahon Field.

Cameron and the third ranked Patriots' twin-bill remains as scheduled for Sunday, April 25, starting at 1 p.m. in Lawton.

With a 23-13 overall record and a 14-10 league mark the Aggies are tied for sixth in the league standings with three other teams. The top-10 teams, based on league records, will make the conference postseason, which will be hosted by the league's No. 1 seed.

The Aggies rank third in all of NCAA Division II with 341 hits and are batting .334 with 234 runs scored this season. They are also in the top-25 in home runs (35) and third in total stolen bases as a team (94). Seniors Brenna Busby and Callie Christensen lead the way, batting over .390 each, while five other Aggies are batting over .300 this year. Busby is second in the nation with 27 stolen bases and leads the team with 44 runs scored. Christensen leads the LSC with 11 home runs and is just three RBI away from tying the program career record of 183.

Cameron's pitching staff has combined for a 3.37 ERA with 192 strikeouts and a .264 opponents' batting average. Breley Webb leads the way with a 2.62 ERA and has a pair of shutouts and 76 strikeouts this season. Bethany Hines, the program's leader in wins, is 9-5 with a 2.91 ERA and a team-high 80 K's in 105.2 innings in the circle.

UT Tyler is atop the league standings with a 23-1 conference record to go along with a 29-5 overall mark. They are batting .330 with 229 runs scored and 99 extra-base hits this season. They are one of the top pitching teams in the nation, posting a 1.18 team ERA with 191 strikeouts and a .213 OBA.

Sophomore Payton Foster leads the way in the circle as she is 13-3 this season with a 0.97 ERA and 87 punch-outs. Erin Hill has been dominant as well, also striking out 87 hitters this season with a 1.04 ERA and 16 wins in 94 innings. At the plate, senior Haleigh Swinney leads the squad with a .404 average and 26 runs scored. Ashley Perez leads UTT with four homers and 25 RBI while batting .389.

The opening game of the LSC doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. on the campus of Cameron University with game two to follow immediately after. All games at McMahon Field are free of charge and available via live stream on the LSC Digital Network.
