Baseball makes final road trip of 2021

LAWTON – The Cameron baseball teams looks to finish off the season strong as they head to Texas A&M International for the final road series of 2021.

The Aggies have lost their last four games and are now 5-28 overall and 5-22 in Lone Star Conference play heading into their final two series of the spring campaign. The final stretch begins on the road where they will face the Dustdevils for a three-game set.

Cameron is hitting .234 as a team led by Jayce Clem and Jordan Harrison-Dudley, who are both batting over .300 this season. Clem has led the Aggies all season with 12 multi-hit games, which included a 19-game hitting streak at one point. Harrison-Dudley has been the hottest CU hitter since the start of April, turning in a .400 average with 10 runs scored, three homers, and 11 RBI. That stretch included a 3-4 day with a homer in the finale against No. 12 Angelo State last Sunday.

Despite a combined opponents' batting average of .318, the Cameron pitching staff includes multiple arms that have had success this season. In nine starts, local product Michael Womack has held the opposition to just a .267 average with 26 strikeouts in 34.1 innings. Marcos Feria leads the staff with 52 strikeouts in just 38 innings, including a team-high 10 starts. Lefty Weston Max turned in a quality start against ASU, giving up just two earned runs with a pair of strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work.

Texas A&M International snapped an eight-game losing skid of their own with a 7-6 win over Easter New Mexico in the series finale last weekend. They are now 8-24 this season and 7-23 in league play with four of their wins coming at home at Jorge Haynes Field. Offensively, the Dustdevils turn in a .242 batting average with 4.5 runs per game and 71 extra-base hits. The pitching staff has combined for a 7.39 ERA and 196 strikeouts while allowing a .311 opponents' batting average.

Sophomore outfielder Matt Kissamis is the only TAMUI batter with an above .300 average that qualifies with plate appearances; he is batting .319 with 11 runs scored and 13 RBI. Philip Sanchez turns in a .279 average with a team-best 20 runs scored and 11 stolen bases. On the mound, Abanny Garcia has been solid, recording 49 strikeouts with a 3.86 ERA in 10 starts.

The three-game series will start on Friday, April 30, with a doubleheader scheduled for 10 a.m. with game three being played on Saturday, May 1, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. International is not allowing spectators at their home baseball games, but fans can watch all three contests via the Lone Star Conference Digital Network.
