LAWTON – The Aggie softball team looks to close out the regular season strong but will have to battle a pair of top-10 ranked opponents in No. 6 Oklahoma Christian and No. 9 Texas A&M-Commerce.
After falling to No. 3 UT Tyler last weekend in a pair of games, Cameron is set for two more doubleheaders against ranked opponents to end the regular season scheduled, with the Lone Star Conference postseason on the horizon. The Aggies were held to just one run in two games against the Patriots and are looking to get the offense going against two teams who also have strong pitching staffs.
Cameron, now 23-15 overall and 14-12 in league play, is still batting .327 with 6.2 runs scored per game despite scoring just one run last weekend. They have 35 home runs and 94 stolen bases, which is seventh most in all of Division II. Leading the way on the base paths is senior
Brenna Busby with 27, while also hitting .381 with 44 runs scored as CU's leadoff hitter. Her sister
Callie Christensen is hitting just a tick better (.383) with a LSC-leading 11 home runs to go along with 33 RBI.
Khmari Edwards leads the Aggies with 34 runs driven in and is batting .377 with 22 stolen bases.
In the circle, the Aggies have combined for a 3.70 ERA with 199 strikeouts and a .270 opponents' batting average.
Breley Webb leads the group with a 3.09 ERA with 77 strikeouts in 86 innings, while senior
Bethany Hines owns a 3.15 ERA with nine wins and 81 K's in 111 innings.
The sixth ranked Eagles have now won 16 straight after sweeping the Lions in a pair of extra-inning games last weekend. They are 33-5 overall and 23-3 in league play with just one loss in 19 games played at home at Tom Heath Field. OC is hitting .334 as a team with nearly seven runs scored per game and 35 home runs this season. Their pitching staff turns in a 3.00 team ERA with 238 combined strikeouts and a .234 opponents' batting average.
Kali Crandall leads the way in the circle, who leads the nation with 22 wins to go along with 143 strikeouts in 134.2 innings of work. Bailey Turner adds 65 strikeouts in 14 starts while holding opposing hitters to a .267 average. Led by Brianna Robinson (.423) and Kylie Janzen (.402), OC has seven hitters that qualify with plate appearances with an above-.300 average. Janzen leads the squad with eight homers and 43 RBI while Katelyn Dunckel leads the team with 35 runs scored and 16 stolen bases.
Texas A&M-Commerce is now 25-12 this season and 18-6 in LSC games after losing the two battles against Oklahoma Christian. Of their 25 wins, only six of them have come on the road, where they are .500 this season. The Lions are powered by their power arms, who have combined for a 2.64 ERA, 274 strikeouts, and a .229 OBA. At the plate, they are hitting just .284 with 5.3 runs scored per game, 30 homers, and 89 stolen bases.
Freshman Alyssa LeBlanc has been close to dominant in the circle, posting a 1.84 ERA with 155 strikeouts in over 125 innings of work. Perennial All-LSC pitcher Emily Otto owns a 2.87 ERA and has retired 110 hitters via strikeouts in 107.1 innings this spring. Madison Schaefer leads the Lions at the plate with a .427 average, 10 homers, and 31 RBI, while LeBlanc has helped herself out with seven home runs and 30 RBI in 103 at-bats. Â Â
