LAWTON – The Cameron baseball team looks to get back on track as they visit the UAFS Lions for a 4-game series beginning Friday afternoon.
The Aggies suffered just their second series loss of the spring this past weekend as they lost to UT Tyler in four games at McCord Field. They are now 8-15 overall and 8-14 in league play, looking to climb their way up the league standings with a strong series against the Lions.
Kyle Williams' squad is batting .264 this season with 130 runs scored and 58 extra-base hits, which includes 18 homers. Leading the power threat is outfielder
Jordan Harrison-Dudley, who is batting .325 with seven homers and 32 RBI this spring. He also ranks in the top-5 of the LSC in slugging, RBI, triples, and home runs.
Jayce Clem is also batting .325 with a team-high 20 runs scored to go along with 14 RBI and
Beau Williams is hitting .317 with 17 runs scored and 13 driven in for Cameron.
Despite the high team-ERA the Cameron staff has had moments of dominance this spring.
Tyler Cornett owns a 2.66 ERA with a team-high 30 strikeouts and a .216 opponents' batting average over 20.1 innings.
Drew Henderson has held opposing hitters to a .171 average and has a .3.86 ERA in 21 innings.
Clayton McClenan and
Kalen Haynes have also had solid starts for CU.
Former Aggie Todd Holland's Lions enter the series with Cameron with a 9-15 overall and conference record after splitting their series with Eastern New Mexico last weekend. They have one series win this season, against Texas A&M International, and were swept by top-10 ranked Angelo State early in the year.
At the plate, UAFS hits .277 as a team with 138 runs scored and 51 extra-base hits. Four players who qualify are batting over .300 led by Kinner Brasher with a .358 average in 19 games. Brooks Sunny leads the team with 21 RBI and Hunter Church has scored 24 times and has five homers and 17 RBI.
Like Cameron, the Lion team ERA is up over 8.00 but teams have been able to hit over .330 against their staff. Logan Grant leads the team with 26 strikeouts in 27.1 innings while Brayden Ross and Dylan Rollins both have 20-plus K's for UAFS.
The series at Crowder Field is scheduled to begin Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. with a single 9-inning game. The two teams will then play a 7-inning doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. and then conclude the series with another 9-inning game at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
