Cameron returns home to host the Chaps

LAWTON – Cameron baseball returns home to take on Lubbock Christian in a 4-game series at McCord Field starting Thursday night.

After a rough weekend at St. Mary's, the Aggies are back on their home field to take on one of the best teams in the South Central Region in the Chaps of LCU. CU will need to start their late-season rally this week if they want to make a push for the Lone Star Conference tournament.

Cameron enters the week with an 11-25 overall record and an 11-23 mark in league play after being swept by the Rattlers. However, they are still in striking distance of the final spot in the LSC postseason with the eighth place team sitting at 14-20 this spring.

The Aggie lineup is hitting .273 with 206 total runs and 88 extra-base hits, 27 of which were home runs. Beau Williams leads a trio of CU hitters with averages around (.315). The second baseman is hitting .318 with 27 runs scored, 12 doubles, and 22 RBI. Jordan Harrison-Dudley provides the pop, hitting .316 with six doubles, five triples, nine homers, and 41 RBI, while Tyler Coleman is batting .315 for the Black and Gold.

On the mound, Drew Henderson leads the team with a 3.16 ERA to go along with 30 strikeouts and a .201 opponents' batting average. Tyler Cornett has a team-high 48 K's with a 3.96 ERA and a .192 average against him. Clayton McClenan struck out seven and gave up just two runs in his 6.1 inning start against the Rattlers last Sunday.

Lubbock Christian comes to Lawton with a 27-11 record this spring with a 25-11 mark against the LSC. They are coming off a 3-1 series win against Eastern New Mexico on their home field after splitting with top-5 ranked West Texas A&M two weeks ago. LCU is 11-5 in road games.

The Chaps offense is loaded and that has caused them to hit .331 this spring with 311 runs scored and 156 extra-base hits, including 62 homers which leads the conference. Larry Leitha leads the power surge with 13 homers to go along with a .328 average while Luis Navarro is hitting .389 with 10 home runs and 47 RBI; LCU has six players hitting over .320 with at least five long-balls.

Lubbock Christian's pitching staff has combined for a 6.18 ERA with 265 strikeouts and a .284 opposing batting average. Ethan Coombes leads the team with 54 K's in 48 innings while Peyton Hutson has a 4.70 ERA and is 5-0 with 38 strikeouts.

Due to the Easter weekend, the series will begin Thursday night with a single game at 6 p.m. at McCord Field. Friday's action will be a 7-inning doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. and then the series concludes on Saturday with a single game beginning at 1 p.m.
