LAWTON – Cameron baseball looks to get a few more upsets this week as they visit No. 12 Angelo State for a 4-game set, their final road trip of the 2022 regular season.
After splitting with then No. 23 Lubbock Christian by winning games one and two of the series, 8-3 and 2-1, the Aggies are now sitting at 13-27 overall and 13-25 in conference play. They are currently in 11th place in the standings, chasing St. Mary's, who currently occupies the final spot in the conference postseason with a 16-24 LSC record.
Julian Macias and
Beau Williams lead a CU lineup that is hitting .267 on the season with 5.5 runs scored per game and 95 extra-base hits. Macias leads the team with a .314 average to go along with 31 runs scored while Williams is batting .313 with 32 runs scored, 12 doubles, six homers, and 26 RBI.
Jordan Harrison-Dudley has been a RBI machine for CU, racking up a team-high 41 while hitting .301 with nine homers, five triples, and seven doubles.
After his complete-game win over one of the top offense in the nation last weekend,
Marcos Feria was named the LSC Pitcher of the Week on Monday and the NCBWA South Central Region Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday. The senior from Miami, Fla. has made eight starts and is second on the team with 45 strikeouts this spring, behind
Tyler Cornett. Cornett has 59 K's over 42.1 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .196 average against him.
Drew Henderson leads CU with a 3.23 ERA and is 3-4 in 10 appearances.
Angelo State enters their final home series of the regular season with a 32-10 overall record and a 30-10 conference mark after sweeping Eastern New Mexico by a score of 62-16 over the 4-game span. However, all 10 of their losses have come at their home Foster Field, including three to West Texas A&M two weeks ago.
Like LCU last week, the Rams excel at scoring runs, averaging 9.1 runs per contest while hitting .337 as a team. Unlike the Chaps, they do it with speed, totaling 103 doubles, nine triples, and 123 stolen bases. Justin Lee leads the way, hitting .421 with 44 runs scored, 16 doubles, and 50 RBI to go along with 17 stolen bases. Austin Beck and Aaron Walters are also both hitting over .370 with at least 40 runs scored and 40 RBI each.
The ASU pitching staff has combined for a 5.36 ERA with 296 combined strikeouts and a opponents' batting average of .279. Benjamin Elder has been close to dominant on the mound, holding teams to a .246 average with 54 K's and a 3.18 ERA. Aaron Munson leads the team with 58 strikeouts in 59.2 innings of work.
Game one of the series at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium is scheduled for Friday night at 6:30 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Saturday with game one beginning at 4 p.m. The series final is slated for Sunday at 1 p.m.
