Box Score 2 LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron Aggies baseball team drops their four-game series to the Javelinas, three games to one, after being swept in a Saturday doubleheader.
On Saturday afternoon, the series between the Aggies and Javelinas resumed after dancing around frigid weather all week. The two teams played a doubleheader on Thursday, did not play on Friday due to significant wind and freezing temperatures, but made it back out to McCord Field on Saturday for another doubleheader set to end the series with games three and four.
Game three featured just seven innings of action, with Junior hurler Clayton McClenan toeing the rubber to the tune of six innings, seven hits, three runs, and punched out six batters.
The Aggie offense could not come alive in game three of the series, getting blanked on three hits and as many walks. CU fell 6-0.
In game four of the series, two of the afternoon, the Cameron Aggies played a back-and-forth affair with the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas.
The Javs struck first, jumping out to a two-run lead in the top of the first before the Black-and-Gold matched that total in the bottom half of the frame.
UTAMK then had a four-run outburst in the second inning and did not surrender a run until the bottom of the third when Lance Barnett singled to plate Beau Williams. Still, the Javs held a three-run lead before getting that run right back in the top of the fifth.
However, in the bottom of the fifth, the Aggies offense came alive, breaking out for four runs, started by a Colby Flood fielder's choice to score Zac DeLong. A string of three straight doubles tied the game, as Trent Mallonee was the first with a gap shot to score Riley Hines, Spencer Simpson followed Mallonee's double to left with a two-bagger to right to trade places with the center fielder. The rally did not stop there, as Beau Williams launched a double to the wall to score Simpson.
However, that is where the scoring stopped for CU, as the Javs would grab a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to regain the lead for the final time.
Cameron would not go down without a fight, though, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull within a run when Holden Tate grounded out with the bases loaded to score Barnett, and Colby Flood laced a single to left to plate Jayce Clem and Ryan Allen.
The Aggie dropped three games of the disjointed four-game series to the Javs. Spencer Simpson finished game four with three hits, a run scored, and an RBI while flashing the leather at shortstop. Beau Williams and Lance Barnett each collected two hits in the contest.
Nate Creason came out of the bullpen for two innings with a hit and a run allowed, as well as three walks.
Next, the Cameron Aggies will travel to Austin, Texas, to take on the St. Edward's Hilltoppers for a four-game set beginning on Friday, March 3rd.
