Box Score 2 LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University team dropped both games of their double header today against Angelo State.
Game one of the double header was a seven inning pitching battle, with only three runs scored, as the Rams one 2-1.
ASU got on the board first in the top of the first inning, and then took a 2-0 lead with another run in the fifth.
In the bottom of the sixth the Aggies got
Codey McElroy reached on a Ram error and then advanced to second on another one.
Jordan Climpson bunt singled to load the bases. Pinch hitter,
Dalton Hilliard then hit a fly ball to right to score McElroy to get the Aggies on the board.
Angelo got the Aggies to go three up-three down to end game one.
In the battle of the pitchers, CU starter
Steve Matta went the distance, but came away with the loss. Matta did not give up an earned run on four hits and struck out six.
The runs poured on in game two, with Angelo State coming away with an 8-6 win after a three run top of the ninth.
ASU took a five run lead into the bottom of the fourth inning when the Aggies scored three in the bottom of the inning thanks to a two RBI single by
Tobin Mateychick and an ASU error that scored Bandon Raidy.
Mateychick came up big for the Aggies again in the bottom of the fifth, driving in three runs on a double.
After three straight scoreless innings, ASU struck for three runs, on three hits; with one CU error to take an 8-6 lead into the bottom of the ninth. A three up-three down Aggie ninth ended the game.
Logan Fanning got the loss, going five innings, giving up no earned runs on four hits and two walks.
Mateychick led the Aggies at the plate, going 4-9 with five RBI, all coming in game two. Additionally, Hilliard was 2-3 with a run scored and a RBI, while
Brandon Raidy scored two runs and went 2-3.
Cameron lost three out of four of their first Lone Star Conference games this weekend, and are now 6-8 overall and 1-3 in the LSC, while Angelo State moves to 13-4 on the season with a 3-1 conference record.
The Aggies will hit the diamond again, March 7-9 when they visit Texas A&M-Kingsville for a four game series.
