Aggies host Tarleton State in four game series

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University baseball team will look to bounce back as they host Tarleton State this weekend, March 14-16, for a four game series.

After getting swept by Texas A&M-Kingsville last week, the Aggies are now 6-12 on the season with a 1-7 Lone Star Conference record. They are currently riding a seven game losing streak. CU is hitting .247 off their opponents, with a .301 slugging percentage, and a .322 on base percentage.

Individually, Brad Blumer leads the team with a .344 average and 22 hits and is 13th in the conference. Both Codey McElroy and Kas Sanders are both hitting over .270 and have 16 hits apiece. Tobin Mateychick leads the Aggies with 12 RBI and four doubles, while Harold Cannon has the lone CU long ball.

On the mound the Aggies have a team ERA of 4.50 with 78 team strikeouts, while allowing opposing hitters to hit for a .279 average. Drew Reidt (2-3) has a team low ERA of 2.64 in 30.2 innings pitched, with a team high 20 strikeouts. Cameron's number two starter, Brian Schwabe (0-1) has pitched in 21.1 innings with a 3.80 ERA and 16 punchouts.

The Texas from Tarleton State have started out the season with 13-7 record and have gone 4-4 in their first eight LSC games. They are currently on a two game losing streak after falling in the final two games of a four game series with Angelo State last week. TSU leads the conference with a .323 batting average, a 471 slugging percentage, and a .399 on base percentage. They also lead the conference in homers and extra base hits.

Rustin Thomas leads the Texans and is second in the LSC in batting with a .419 average. He leads the conference in home runs, runs batted in, and slugging percentage.

Tarleton's pitching is third in the league with a 4.01 ERA and has 103 team strikeouts, with an opponent's batting average of .265. Colton Burleson (3-2) is the team's ace, with a 1.95 ERA in 37 innings pitched with 14 strikeouts. However, Jacob French (4-1) leads the team in strikeouts, with 29 in his 33 innings of work.

The series will consist of a single nine inning game on Friday, March 14, followed by a pair of seven inning games on Saturday, March 15, and then will conclude with a single nine inning game on Sunday, March 16. Game one is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday.

After a week off, the Aggies will be back at McCord Field, March 21-23 to host Eastern New Mexico in a four game series.
