Box Score LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University baseball team fought off a late inning rally by Eastern New Mexico Friday afternoon to get a 4-2 win, breaking their nine game losing streak.
Cameron's starter,
Drew Reidt, went seven and two third innings to get his third win of the season. Reidt was perfect through three until the Greyhounds got their first hit on a two out single in the top of the fourth. Reidt gave up two earned runs, on five hits, and struck out four in the win.
The Aggies got on the board first in the bottom of inning number one with
Codey McElroy scoring on an ENMU error.
CU extended the lead in the bottom of the third, when
Brandon Raidy scored on a groundout by
Kas Sanders.
After a scoreless fourth and fifth innings, Cameron took a 3-0 lead via a
Brad Blumer RBI single that drove in Sanders.
Raidy scored again in the seventh, after advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by McElroy and then scoring on an error by Eastern's pitcher.
The Greyhounds cut the lead in half in the top of the eighth via a Matthew Burks two run homer, making it 4-2.
After a three up-three down bottom of the eighth,
Tobin Mateychick came in from his spot in right field to close out the game on the mound in the top of the ninth. ENMU got runners on first and second with one out, but Mateychick closed it out for his first save of the season, getting Brett Ackerman to ground into a 6-3 double play to end the game, 4-2.
With the win, Reidt moves to 3-4, while ENMU's starter, Ben Monticello, is now 4-2, after going all eight innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits.
Raidy led the Aggies at the plate, going 2-3 with two runs scored, while Sanders was 1-3 with a run scored and an RBI, Blumer was 1-4 with an RBI, and McElroy was 1-3 with a run scored.
Cameron (7-14; 2-9 LSC) and Eastern New Mexico (14-11; 4-9 LSC) will meet up again Saturday afternoon for two seven inning games, starting at noon.
