Aggie baseball heads to WT for a four game series

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University baseball team gears up for a four game series with West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas, March 28-30.

The Aggies are coming off a weekend where they went 3-1 against Lone Star Conference foe Eastern New Mexico, which moves them to 9-15 on the year and 4-10 in conference play.

CU started off the series with a 4-2 win over the Greyhounds in game one. They then lost 1-0 in 11 innings despite a seven inning no-hitter by Brian Schwabe in game two, but took game three by edging out ENMU 4-3. To close out the series, the Aggies came back from an 11-3 deficit and scored 16 runs in the sixth and seventh innings to get the win 19-11.

As a team, Cameron is hitting .250 with a .310 slugging percentage, and a .327 on base percentage. They are led by Brad Blumer, who is hitting .313/.349/.348 with 26 hits, while Tobin Mateychick leads the team with 12 RBI. Additionally, Codey McElroy (.297), Jordan Climpson (.273), and Kas Sanders (.263) are all hitting over .250 for the Aggies, with Climpson having the team lead in runs scored with 17.

On the mound, CU has an ERA of 4.08 with an opponent's batting average of .272. Individually, Drew Reidt, Steve Matta, and Schwabe are coming off solid performances in their last outings. Reidt is 3-4 with a 2.58 ERA and 26 strikeouts, while Schwabe is 0-2 with an ERA of 3.06 with 28 strikeouts, holding opponents to just a .223 batting average.

The Buffs have a 24-5 record with a 13-3 LSC mark, winning eight out of their last nine ball games. As a team, WT is hitting .306/.393/.368/ with 173 runs scored and 66 extra base hits. The Buffs have eight players hitting over .300, with Nick Chapman leading the way with a .389 average. Aaron Blair leads the team with 19 RBI, while Matt Redfearn leads the team with 26 runs scored.

On the mound, the Buffs have an ERA of 2.02, holding opposing hitters to just a .201 average, with 237 team strikeouts. Joshua Weyker, Dylan James, and Scott Cone are all three top notch starters. Weyker is 5-2 with a 0.98 ERA, four shutouts, 37 strikeouts, and an opponent's batting average of .189. James is 6-0 with a 1.62 ERA, an opponent's batting average of just .144 and a team leading 65 strikeouts. Cone is 4-0 on the season with a 1.91 ERA and 39 strikeouts. Additionally, Paul Lujan has recoded six saves for WT in 13.1 innings pitched with an ERA of 1.35 and 13 strikeouts.

The series will start with a single nine inning game on Friday, March 28 at 7 p.m., will continue on Saturday, March 29 with two seven innings games, starting at 4 p.m., and then will conclude with another nine inning game on Sunday, March 30 at 1 p.m.

Following the series with WT, the Aggies will head to San Angelo, Texas for a three game series with Angelo State, April 4-5.
