Box Score 2 CANYON, Texas – Cameron at least guaranteed themselves a series split with #3 West Texas A&M after winning game one 11-4 and then dropping the nightcap 9-4 on Saturday night.
Codey McElroy was in the grove at the plate and smashed three homers and five RBI in the doubleheader. As a team prior to Saturday's events the Aggies only had one homerun.
The 11 runs and 12 hits by Cameron batters was a season high for the West Texas A&M pitching staff. Prior to Saturday the Buffs highest run total given up was six and CU bested their previous hits allowed by two.
Cameron maintained an early 3-1 lead before the Buffs plated three runs in the bottom on the third to pull ahead.Â
After a two scoreless innings, Cameron rocked the boat off of their second homer of the season from McElroy to plate three runs and take a 6-4 lead.
Cameron wasn't done though and in sixth
Brandon Raidy doubled to left field to score two more additional runs. Then in the seventh CU walked in a run before
Garrett Schaede came off bench and knocked in a ground rule double to score a pair and push CU to the 11-4 win.
Brian Schwabe (1-2) earned his first win of the season going six innings while giving up four earned runs.Â
Brent Hendy went came out of the pen and tossed a scoreless seventh to finish the game.
In the nightcap, a rough start by Cameron pitching led to a 9-1 lead by the Buffs after the third inning.
McElroy continued to swing a hot bat with a solo homer in the fifth and seventh inning,
Harold Cannon plated Cameron's other run in the sixth off of a single.
Steve Matta (2-3) was charged for the loss after giving up nine runs in 2 1/3 innings;
Josh Neilson tossed 3 2/3 clean innings with only three hits given up.
With the split on Saturday, Cameron moves to 11-16 overall and 6-11 in the Lone Star Conference.
Cameron will wrap up the four game series on Sunday at 1 pm.Â
