Baseball drops pair to Texas A&M Kingsville

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 KINGSVILLE, Texas –  The Cameron University baseball team fell in their final two games on Saturday to Texas A&M Kingsville 7-2 and 9-2 to complete the series sweep at Nolan Ryan Field.

With the two losses on Saturday, Cameron (6-12, 1-7 LSC) has now dropped their last seven games in a row.

In the first game of the doubleheader Texas A&M Kingsville knocked around Cameron's Steve Matta on the mound for three runs in the second and four more in the third inning to fall 7-2.

Cameron's only runs came in the top of the sixth after a Matt Nilmeyer single to score Brandon Raidy in from second and a RBI fly out by Codey McElroy to plate Tobin Mateychick in from third.

Aggie hitters would strike out eight times and get five hits off of Kingsville pitching; Kas Sanders was the sole CU batter with two hits.

Matta (1-2) went the distance for CU with six innings tossed with all seven runs being earned.

Kingsville jumped out on top early in the nightcap after an Aggie error led to two Javelina runs in the first inning.  In the next inning the floodgates opened and Kingsville knocked in six runs off of four hits to bust the game wide open 8-0.

The Javelinas plated one more additional run in the fifth before Cameron countered with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth off of a pair of wild pitches.

Despite CU's late runs the gap was too much to overcome they would fall 9-2.

McElroy accounted for all of Cameron's hits with two against Kingsville's pitching.

Jacob Winters (0-2) was charged for the loss after tossing 1 1/3 innings while giving up six runs (four earned).

Cameron will return home on March 14-16 to host a four game series with Tarleton State.
