LAWTON, Okla. –The Cameron University baseball team will host Southwestern Oklahoma State for their final non-conference home game of the 2014 season.
CU enters their second matchup with the Bulldogs with a 12-23 record. The first time these two teams met up on April 1, SWOSU struck for 19 hits on their way to an 11-3 win over the Aggies. Since then, CU has won only one out of their last six contests. Currently, Cameron is hitting .259 with a .337 slugging percentage, a .343 on base percentage, and 57 extra base hits.
CU's power numbers jumped up after their series with the Javelinas, as they added three homers to their season total thanks to
Codey McElroy,
Harold Cannon, and
Jordan Climpson. McElroy now has a team leading four long balls to go along with his .293 batting average. Cannon is closely behind him as he now has three this season, while this was Climpson's first of the year.
Additionally,
Brad Blumer leads the team with a .325 batting average and is tied for the team lead with 117 hits.
Matt Nilmeyer has played himself into the starting line up recently and has excelled, hitting .300 with 15 hits, eight RBI, and five runs scored in only 50 plate appearances.
Cameron's pitching has struggled as of late, with their team ERA jumping up to 5.05.
Drew Reidt (4-6) and
Brian Schwabe (2-3) have ERA's of 3.38 and 3.83 respectively and lead the team with 40 strikeouts a piece.
SWOSU enters the contest with the Aggies with a 20-18 record, after winning one out of three games in their last series with East Central. As a team they are batting .273 with a .360 slugging percentage, a .358 on base percentage, and 84 extra base hits, and on the mound the have a team ERA of 4.15 and 173 combined strikeouts.
Individually for the Bulldogs, Dalton Daniels (.357) and Jiro Morales (.311) are both hitting over .300, with Daniels leading the team in hits, runs scored, and on base percentage. Kale Thaxton leads the team with 32 RBI and is hitting .293. Starting pitcher, Jonathan Johnson is 5-4 on the year with a 1.99 ERA in 81.1 innings pitched, while Ethan Davis is 6-3 with a team leading 47 punch outs.
The game between the Aggies and Bulldogs will be a single nine inning contest on Tuesday, April 15, at 2 p.m.
Following the game with SWOSU, Cameron will begin their final road stretch of the season, heading to Tarleton State for a three game series, April 18-19, in Stephenville, Texas.
