Aggies back in post-season hunt after split on Saturday to Tarleton

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The Cameron baseball team is back in the postseason hunt after splitting 6-2 games to Tarleton State on Saturday afternoon.

Cameron got a combination of timely hits and a stellar complete game effort from Drew Reidt to take game one 6-2 from the Texans.  In game two, the Aggies offense was silenced with only three hits to drop the final game of the series 6-2.

After taking three out of four games from the Texans, Cameron is at most two games back from final spot for the Lone Star Conference tournament in May.

In game one, Tarleton plated a run off of a double to start the game with the 1-0 lead.  Cameron responded back in the third with homers from Tyler Palmer and Brandon Raidy; later in the inning, Codey McElroy singled through the left side for CU's third run to take the lead.

Cameron didn't need much scoring behind Reidt (5-6) who didn't allow another run to across the plate until TSU scored a run with one out remaining in the game.

The Aggies plated an insurance run in the fourth after Kas Sanders drew a walk to score a run and McElroy doubled in two runs in the sixth to help lead CU to the 6-2 win.

Eight different CU batters would get a hit with McElroy having a three RBI game.

In the nightcap, Cameron played their contest as the "home team" on TSU's field as part of a makeup game from a rainout earlier in the season at McCord Field.

Neither Cameron nor Tarleton could get their offense going and it would take until the top of the sixth inning before Tarleton plated a pair off of a double to take the 2-0 lead over CU.  A two run homer in seventh by TSU added insurance runs for the Texans to extend their lead to four runs.

Cameron hitters came up with a run in the bottom half of the seventh off of a Jordan Climpson sacrifice to cut the TSU lead to three.

However, Tarleton plated two more runs off of a pair of doubles to extend their advantage to five while Cameron plated a run in the bottom of the ninth but they would fall 6-2  in the final game of the series.

Ryan Daspin (1-1) in his first start of the season went six innings and gave up two runs off of three hits in the loss.

The Aggies are now 16-24, 10-18 LSC for the season, while Tarleton moves to 22-20, 12-16

Cameron will remain on the road starting on April 25 to face Eastern New Mexico for a three game LSC series.
