LAWTON, Okla. -- The Aggie baseball team will kick off the backstretch of the race to the Lone Star Conference tournament this weekend, as they head to San Angelo, Texas for a three game series with Angelo State, April 4-5.
After splitting a four game series with #3 West Texas last weekend and falling 11-3 to SWOSU on Tuesday, Cameron heads into the ASU series with an 11-18 record with a 6-12 conference mark.
In the four game home series against the Rams earlier this season, CU came out and won game one 6-5 on a
Jordan Climpson walkoff RBI single, but lost the final three games of the series 4-3, 2-1, and 8-6.
This season, Cameron is hitting .256/.326/.337 with 45 extra base hits, including four homers and eight triples.
Codey McElroy has supplied three of those homers while also tying for the team lead with a .319 batting average. McElroy additionally leads the team with 21 runs and a .553 slugging percentage.
Brad Blumer is also hitting .319 for the Aggies, while
Tobin Mateychick leads the team with 14 RBI.
On the mound, the Aggies have a team ERA of 4.80 with 126 strikeouts and an opponents' batting average of .289.
Drew Reidt leads the platoon of CU hurlers with a 4-4 record and a 2.58 ERA in 52.1 innings pitched, and a team leading 30 strikeouts.
Brian Schwabe has also been solid for CU, going 1-2 in 41.1 innings with a 3.48 ERA and 29 punchouts.
Additionally, Cameron has a team fielding percentage of .948 with 1.76 errors per contest.
The Rams of Angelo State enter the series with a 20-13 overall record, going 10-10 in LSC play. As a team, ASU is hitting .284 at the plate with 71 extra base hits, while totaling a 2.96 team ERA and holding opponents to just hitting .249 off of them on the mound.
Individually, Angelo State has five players hitting over .300, with Derek Tyner leading the way with a .322 average and 17 RBI. David Goggin and Christian Summers are tied for the team lead with 21 RBI, and Tyler Coughenour has the team lead with 29 runs scored. Additionally, the Rams lead the conference with 67 stolen bases.
Jake Feckley (4-2 with a 1.91 ERA and 45 K's) and Jason Zgardowski (3-2 with a 1.94 ERA and 55 K's) are two quality front of the rotation pitchers for ASU, who has hardly any weak spots on their pitching staff.
The teams will start the series with a single nine inning game on Friday, April 4 at 6:30 p.m. and will continue with two seven inning games on April 5, starting at noon.
Cameron will return home for their next three game series, as they host Texas A&M-Kingsville, April 11-12.
