Schwabe tosses two-hitter as Cameron splits pair with Angelo State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAN ANGELO, Texas --  A late rally by Angelo State prevented Cameron from taking a doubleheader on Saturday after in San Angelo.

Brian Schwabe tossed a pitching gem in game one as he  would lead CU to a 3-0 win in game one but they would fail to protect a 6-4 lead in the seventh inning to fall 7-6 to the Rams in the nightcap.

With the split Cameron moves to 12-20 overall and 7-14 in Lone Star Conference play, Angelo State goes to 22-13 overall and 12-11 in the LSC.

Schwabe (2-2) didn't get a ton of run support in game one but he wouldn't need much to work with after tossing 5 2/3 innings of no-hit ball against the Rams.   Schwabe allowed a double with two outs in the sixth and a single with two outs in the seventh to toss a two hit shutout.

The game was Angelo State's second shutout of the season a career first for Schwabe who pitched seven innings of no-hit ball against Eastern New Mexico a couple weeks ago at McCord Field.

Cameron jumped ahead by a run in the second inning off of a ASU fielding error and Harold Cannon smacked his second homer of the year over the left field wall in the fifth to give CU a 2-0 lead.

Brad Blumer added an insurance run in the sixth scoring Codey McElroy from second to give the Aggies a 3-0 win.

In game two, Cameron rallied from an Angelo State 4-2 lead with a four run seventh inning off doubles from Cannon and Tobin Mateychick to take a late lead.

However, an unearned run off of an Aggie error came back to bite Cameron in the seventh and ASU tied the game with a solo homer in the eighth.

After a scoreless top of the ninth the Rams would plate in the winning run off of an another CU error for the winning run.

Steve Matta went 3 2/3 innings and gave up four runs (three earned) in the no-decision.  Josh Neilson (1-2) would be credited the loss after going the final 4 1/3 innings and giving up three runs (one earned).

Cameron will return home on Friday to face Texas A&M Kingsville to start a three game series.
