LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron baseball team will officially lead off Lone Star Conference action with a four game series at Angelo State March 24-26.
The 18-7 Aggies are coming off a big series win over then No. 25 Texas A&M-Kingsville where CU took 3-for-4 games over the Javelinas.Â
Cody Bower's performance in the series earned him LSC's hitter of the week honors for the second time this season.
Bower hit .538 in the series, scoring four runs and batting in seven.
Bronson Pulgados also did well at the plate recording seven hits and four runs. In game three,
Anthony Acevedo went 3-for-4 with two doubles.
On the mound,
Javarias Banks highlighted the Aggies by earning his third save in game one and his third win in game two where he sat down all four batters he faced, two on strikeouts.
Presently,
Micah Kaaukai leads the Aggies with a .432 batting average and Bower with a .429 clip.
Gaige Vines has a team best 2.46 ERA.
Cameron will face No. 10 Angelo State who last week was No. 2 and split a four game series with then No. 16 West Texas A&M. The Rams enter the series on a two game skid, their first back-to-back losses of the season.
Their ace Matt Shannon earned LSC pitcher of the week honors after holding the Buffs to just .083 while on the mound and earned his third win. He only allowed two hits through seven innings in their 7-1 win.
The Rams lead the conference in stolen bases at 50, led by Elias Aguirre who has swiped nine bags. Aquirre also leads his team with a .406 batting average. Matt Waller has a team best 29 hits, 25 RBI and adds eight stolen bases on the year.
Cameron will play a single nine inning game on Friday at 6:30 p.m. followed by a double header on Saturday starting at 4 p.m. and will wrap up the series at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
