LAWTON, Okla. – After an eight-game road trip, the Aggies will be back in action at McCord Field this week to take on Eastern New Mexico for a four game series.
Holding an 18-11 overall record and 0-4 league mark, Cameron is currently fourth in Lone Star Conference standings, one spot behind third place Greyhounds who have a 22-8 record and are 1-3 in the conference.
Cameron will be looking for the first league victory after falling in four straight last week at then No. 6 Angelo State. In the first three games, the Aggies fell by six runs or more, but in the series finale battled ASU in a 13-11 slugfest loss.
Despite the loss, CU out-hit the Rams 17-16 with
Micah Kaaukai leading the way after a 4-for-5 day at the plate with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored.Â
Cody Bower and
Anthony Acevedo homered to close out the series.
Currently Cameron leads the conference in double plays at 19 and are tenth in the nation in triples with 13. Bower is fifth in the nation in triples accounting for five this season.
Victor DeJesus is 11th nationally with five sacrifice flies. Bower and Kaaukai are both hitting above .400.
For CU's pitching staff,
Gaige Vines has a team best 3.29 ERA and is 2-3 on the mound. Cameron's collective ERA is 6.53.
On the Greyhounds' side, they went 1-3 last week versus West Texas A&M, with all three losses coming by no more than two runs. Their lone win was a 7-1 victory.
Alex DeLaCruz leads his team and the league in batting average .445, hits at 49, and in runs scored at 42, which is also good for third best in the nation. He is second in the league and team in stolen bases with 12 behind teammate Malcolm Smith who has swiped 14 bags so far this season.
On the mound for ENMU Keenan Dodd boasts a 1.74 ERA and holds a 4-1 record. Behind him is 3-1 Austin Paisar with a 2.45 ERA. Dwight Velarde has a team best four saves, while Scott Klein is second in the LSC with 54 strikeouts.
The Aggies will start their series at 3 p.m. on Friday followed by a 1 p.m. double header start on Saturday. The series finale will start at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
