Cameron Baseball to host No. 16 West Texas A&M

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron baseball team will host No. 16 West Texas A&M for a four game league series April 13-15 at McCord Field.

The Aggies are 23-14 overall and 4-6 in Lone Star Conference action after taking three of four games at UT Permian Basin last week. Cameron outscored the Falcons 31-14 during the series, and in their lone loss, dropped the contest by just one run.

In game one's 13-3 victory, Ryan Banwart led the Aggies by going 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. In game two, Bronson Pulgados drove in three of CU's seven runs, while Cody Knight drove in two in game four.

Javarias Banks stood out on the mound in game four appearing in the fifth inning and finishing off the Falcons in 4.1 perfect innings to secure the victory. He struck out nine of 13 batter s faced and is now 4-2 on the season.

Overall, Cameron is batting .313 for fourth in league standings. Individually, Micah Kaaukai has a team best .412 batting average for third in the LSC and is second in on base percentage .535. He is currently on a five game hitting streak.

Cody Bower leads with a .630 slugging percentage and is second in the league with most hits with 51 and has 38 RBI this season.

The Aggies' pitching staff holds the league's least favorable team ERA at a 5.96 clip. Reid Garrett (2-4) holds a team high 4.26 ERA.

Cameron is receiving votes in the NCBWA South Central Region Top-10 this week.

The Aggies will catch the No. 16 Buffs down two games as they enter their series in Lawton. The Buffs are coming off a disappointing 1-3 week with a 2-1 loss at Lubbock Christian and dropped the first three-game series of the season at home to Arkansas-Fort Smith as the Lions won two of three.  

For the season, the Buffs are hitting .331 on the year, ranking 13th nationally and second in the Lone Star Conference.

Nick Canas leads WTAMU in batting average at .407, which is fourth best in the league. He also has a  .619 slugging percentage and 48 hits. Teammate Troy LaBrie has a league best 17 doubles and Adam Adkins is next with 15 doubles.

Meanwhile, the Buff's pitching staff holds the league's top ERA pitchers in Marshall Kasowski (7-2) and Joshua Payne (6-2).

Kasowski has a LSC best 1.63 ERA and opponents are hitting just .128 against him. He also tops the conference with 111 strikeouts.

He is the league's current pitcher of the week after he struck out 15 in a complete game win in the opener against Arkansas-Fort Smith. It marked his seventh game this season with double digit strikeouts.

Fellow Buff Joshua Payne is next with a 2.14 ERA for second in the LSC. Closer Justin McAllister has a team best seven saves.

The Aggies/Buffs series opener will start at 3 p.m. on Thursday followed by a doubleheader Friday at 3 p.m. and a single game Saturday at 1 p.m.
