Baseball hosts Javelinas in final home series

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron baseball team will close out regular season play at home with a four game series against #RV Texas A&M-Kingsville on May 5-7 at McCord Field.

A postseason berth will be on the line for the Aggies against the Javelinas as CU will need to sweep the series and have Eastern New Mexico fall in at least one game in their series at UT Permian Basin to qualify for the Lone Star Conference tournament.

Cameron enters the final series 25-18 overall and 6-10 in the LSC, while TAMUK is 31-12 and tops the conference with a 16-4 league mark.

Earlier this season, prior to games counting toward league standings, CU took three of four games at Kingsville and fell by just one run in their lone series loss.

Most recently, Cameron completed their final road series at Tarleton State on April 26-28 where the Aggies took just one of four games. In the series opener, the Ags chipped at a five run deficit to grab a come from behind 11-8 win in 11 innings.

Cody Knight, Cody Bower and Micah Kaaukai each led the Aggies with two hits apiece, while Knight had a team high 4 RBI and Bower 2 RBI. Both of Bower's runs resulted from his seventh homer of the season.

On the mound, Javarias Banks closed out the game with the win advancing to 5-2 on the season after holding the Texans to just one hit in two innings pitched.

For the season, Kaaukai leads CU with a .426 batting average that is second in league and is first in the LSC with a .549 on base percentage. He has 55 hits, just one shy of Bower's 55 hits.

Bower is third in the league with a .615 slugging percentage and has a team best 44 RBI.

Starting pitchers Reid Garrett (4.23) and Tyler Abrego (4.24) host the teams' best ERA.

The Aggies will face the second best ERA team in the league in the Javelinas as their team has a 3.71 clip on the mound.

Isaiah Lybarger (3.29) is 5-2 this season with 18 strikeouts, while Seth Hubert (3.38) is 7-2. Zach Wilson has a team best 19 strikeouts, and Jako Kelm team best four saves.

At the plate, TAMUK is led by Pablo Hernandez who is hitting .401, has 41 RBI and leads the conference with 18 doubles.

The Aggies/Javelinas series will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, followed by a 1 p.m. double header start on Saturday and will conclude on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.
