Cameron hosts OBU for mid-week contest

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University baseball team will host Oklahoma Baptist for a single nine inning game at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at McCord Field. 

The Aggies enter their second home contest with a 5-1 record, after sweeping their last three game series against Texas A&M-International. Against the Dustdevils, CU scored two runs in the eighth inning to win game one, 3-1. They then used a four run fifth inning in the second game to win 5-4. In the third and final game, the Black and Gold struck early for five runs and limited big innings by TAMUI to ear the 6-3 win.

As a team, the Aggies are batting .270 with 38 runs scored and three homers. On the base baths, they have gone 17-21 and while in the field the own a .938 fielding percentage. The CU Pitching staff owns a 3.19 ERA in 48 innings of work. They have a combined 50 strikeouts and an opponents' batting average of .270.

Kameron Good went 6-10 this past weekend, improving his batting average to .500 on the season, which leads the Aggies. Cole Williams leads CU with eight hits, while he and Mitch Sloan have a team best seven runs scored. Colton Adams owns the team led in RBI with seven, while Williams had five.

On the mound, Andrew Garza and Reid Garrett have set the pace as starters, as Garza has gone 1-0 in two starts with a 1.50 ERA in 12 innings of work and Garrett has a team best 12 strikeouts in nine innings pitched. Skyler Henderson and Sean Maher have been strong out of the pen, with the submarine pitching Henderson posting a 2-1 record in four appearances with 2.35 ERA in 7.2 innings of work, while Maher has 11 strikeouts in his 7.2 innings of work.

As for the Bison, they have started the season off strong as well, posting a 5-1 record in their first two weeks of play. Oklahoma Baptist started the season by scoring 54 runs in a three game sweep of Manhattan Christian and is coming off of a 2-1 series win against Oklahoma Christian. They are hitting .429 with 83 runs scored and 10 homers. On the mound, OBU has a team ERA of 4.02 in 47 innings with 78 combines strikeouts and a .200 opposing batting average.  

Individually, Juan Gonzalez is hitting .571 with a team best nine RBI, while John Timms is batting .550 with eight RBI. Additionally, Zane Gelphman leads OBU with four homers and is tied with Brett Berghammer with a team best 10 runs scored.

Zach Fowler leads OBU on the found, posting a 4.50 ERA in 10 innings with 16 strikeouts, while Albertus Barber is 2-0 with 15 strikeouts and Thomas Shroder has 13 strikeouts in 9.2 innings pitched.

Following their mid-week contest against the Bison, Cameron will remain at home for their next series as they host Northwest Missouri State for three games, Feb. 16-18.
