Make up game against Northwestern scheduled for Tuesday

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University baseball team will make up a game against Northwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday, March 13, that was originally scheduled to be a doubleheader back in February.

Originally scheduled on Feb. 21 to be a doubleheader between the Aggies and the Rangers, Tuesday's contest will be a single, nine inning game beginning at 2 p.m.

Since their almost two weeks off from competition from Feb. 20-28, Cameron has gone just 1-7, including a pair of home loses against Oklahoma Christian and Southeastern Oklahoma State. Most recently, CU went 1-3 in a four game non-conference series at Tarleton State.  In the one win, Luke Hughes went 4-4 with two homeruns and five RBI in the Black and Gold's 10-9 win.

This season, Hughes leads the Aggie offense, which is batting .258 with 88 runs scored combined, with a .333 average, 22 hits, and nine stolen bases. He, Michael Flohr and Trey Bigford are the only three CU players batting over .300 on the season. Bigford also leads the team with 14 runs scored, while Colton Adams has a team best 12 RBI, while sitting even with Hughes and Cole Williams for a CU best two homeruns.

On the mound, Cameron owns a 6.78 team ERA with 119 combined strikeouts in 140.2 innings of work. Andrew Garza and Skyler Henderson have the lowest ERAs on the team at 3.15, while Garza has 31 strikeouts in 34.1 innings pitched. Additionally, Reid Garrett is 3-1 with 25 Ks, and Sean Maher has struck out 24 batters in 18.2 innings of work.

Northwestern Oklahoma State is 12-11 this year, while also going 6-6 in their Great American Conference contests. They are coming off of a three game series sweep of East Central, where they out-scored the Tigers 23-8.

Six Rangers are batting over .300 with Judah Zickafoose leading the way with a .396 average and six homers. Just behind Zickafoose, is Justin Bandy, who is batting .389 with a team best 24 RBI, while Johnuelle Ponce is hitting .309 with five homers and 23 RBI.

The NWOSU pitching staff has a team ERA of 5.75 with 152 strikeouts in 186.1 innings pitched. Walker Wharton is their staff ace, going 5-0 with a 1.79 ERA and 29 Ks in 45.1 innings on the mound.

After their contest with the Rangers, Cameron will open up Lone Star Conference play as they host No. 19 Texas A&M-Kingsville for a four game series, March 16-18.
