Cameron faces off against No. 16 Javelinas

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University baseball will host Lone Star Conference opponent No. 16 Texas A&M-Kingsville for a four game non-conference series, March 16-18.

Cameron's final non-conference series against a league opponent will begin with a single game on Friday at 3 p.m., and will continue with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. The series will conclude with another single nine inning game at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Friday and Saturday's contests will be streamed live on the Oklahoma Sports Network.

The Aggies are one win away from being back at .500 on the season after their 14-5 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday. Cole Williams had a big day at the plate against the Rangers, driving in six runs on three hits, while Trey Bigford reached base safely each of the five times he can to the plate and scored four times. Alex Ward made his first career start on Tuesday, and after giving up four runs in the first inning, the Lawton native settled in the pitch six one-hit innings to earn the win.

On the season, CU is batting .262 with 102 runs scored. Three Aggies are batting over .300 with Luke Hughes leading the way with 24 hits and a .348 average, while Bigford is hitting .324 with 18 runs scored, and Williams has a .314 average with 16 RBI.

Andrew Garza and Reid Garrett have led the way on the mound for the Black and Gold, with Garza posting a 3.15 ERA in 34.1 innings with 31 Ks, while Garrett is 3-1 with 25 strikeouts in 30 innings of work. Sean Maher and Skyler Henderson have been good out of the bullpen for Cameron, combining for 41 punchouts in 18 appearances.

Texas A&M-Kingsville is sitting at 16-3 on the season and moved up to No. 16 in the NCBWA Top-25 poll after taking three out of four games against then No. 5 West Texas A&M last week. Junior Joshua Valdez pitched his way to a LSC Pitcher of the Week honor by throwing five scoreless innings with six strikeouts to earn his first win in the 9-4 game win over the Buffs. TAMUK also recorded a 13-3 win over Victoria on Wednesday.

The Javelinas are batting .268 on the season with 142 runs scored and 39 extra base hits. Levi Zents leads the way offensively, batting .383, while Austin Ingraham leads the team with 19 RBI, 20 hits, and 11 stolen bases.

On the mound, Preston Plovanich leads the team with 29.1 innings pitched, while Isaiah Lybarger has 24 strikeouts, and Kyle Craft has a 1.99 ERA in 22.2 innings of work.

Next week's matchup does not get any easier for the Aggies. After taking on TAMUK this weekend, Cameron will host LSC defending champs Angelo State for a four game slate to begin league play.
