Aggies split double header with Greyhounds

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAWTON, Okla. – Cameron baseball split a double header with Eastern New Mexico Saturday afternoon; falling 1-0 in 11 innings in game one and then taking game two 4-3.

The Aggies, who are now 8-15 overall and 3-10 in the Lone Star Conference after the split, while Eastern New Mexico is now 15-12 and 5-10 in conference.

Both games were scheduled for seven innings, however in game one, the two teams got into a pitching dual with neither teams scoring a run through 10 innings. The one run was scored in the top of the 11th inning when the Greyhounds' Matthew Burks scored on a sacrifice bunt.

Cameron's starter, Brian Schwabe, threw seven no-hit innings, while striking out six in the no decision. The loss went to Josh Neilson (1-1), who went three innings, gave up two hits and one earned run, while striking out three.

ENMU's starter, Matthew Artalejo (4-2), pitched all 11 innings, giving up four hits and striking out four CU batters.

Game two featured more of an offensive spark from both teams. The Aggies got on the board first in the second inning, scoring two runs, the first on an error that scored Tobin Mateychick, and the second on an RBI single by Cole Williams scoring Jordan Climpson.

CU added single runs in both the third and fifth innings, both coming off of Codey McElroy RBI singles, giving the Aggies a 4-0 lead.

Eastern erased the Aggies four run lead with a three run top of the sixth, getting an RBI single from Rawley Gomez and a two RBI single from Dylan Nault, making it 4-3 in favor of Cameron. From there, Mateychick came in to pitch and got a five out save, his second save in two days, securing the Aggie win.

Steve Matta got the win for Cameron, pitching five and a third innings, giving up two hits, three earned runs, and striking out three. The loss went to Rusty Edwards, who gave up two earned, in two innings of work.

McElroy led Cameron with a 2-7 two RBI day, while Tyler Palmer was 2-3 and Brandon Raidy was 2-6 with a run scored.

The two teams will close out the series with the a nine inning game Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
