Box Score 2 KINGSVILLE, Texas – A shortage of offense leads to the Cameron University baseball team dropping two in a double header with Texas A&M-Kingsville Friday evening.
In game one, the Aggies gave up a three run first and two run third, and couldn't pound out any runs themselves, falling 5-0 to the Javelinas.
The CU offense was stalled through all seven innings, as they could not advance a runner past second base in the first game of the double header. TAMUK's Taylor Taska went all seven innings on the mound, giving up only five hits and blanking nine Aggie hitters.
Drew Reidt got the loss for Cameron, and is now 2-3 on the season. Reidt went five innings, giving up four earned runs, on seven hits, with four strikeouts.
The Aggie bats came alive in game two, getting on the board first with a two run top of the second. Back to back singles by
Brad Blumer and
Kas Sanders were followed by two straight RBI singles by
Garrett Schaede and
Tyler Palmer that put the Ags up 2-0. The Javelinas would cut the deficit in half with a one run bottom of the second.
Cameron got another run in the top of the third as
Cole Williams drove in
Codey McElroy with two outs to make it 3-1.
From there it was all Texas A&M-Kingsville as they put together a four run fourth, a two run sixth, and three run seventh and eighth innings to take down the black and gold 13-3 in eight innings.
The loss went to
Brian Schwabe, who in four innings, gave up four earned runs, on six hits, with four punch outs.
On offense, Blumer was 3-6 on the day with a run scored, while Williams was 3-6 with an RBI and Schaede was 2-6 with an RBI.
Cameron is now 6-10 on the season with a 1-5 Lone Star Conference record, while the Javelinas are 8-7 with a 3-3 LSC mark.
The two teams will complete the series with another double header Saturday, March 8, with game one starting at 1 p.m.
