Holland earns 300th career win as Aggies down WT

Box Score LAWTON, Okla. – Head Coach Todd Holland earns his 300th win as the head man at Cameron as the Aggies take down West Texas A&M, 8-3 Friday afternoon.

Now in his 11th season as the CU head man, Holland entered the 2014 season with a 282-221 career record. Cameron's 18th win of the season over the Buffs helped him reach that 300th milestone.

West Texas A&M got on the board first, scoring a run in both the top of the first and second innings on an RBI groundout and a solo home run. The Aggies answered in the bottom of the second when Tobin Mateychick hit one over the right field fence to cut the lead in half. Cole Williams tied the ball game at two runs apiece when he hit a triple off the right field wall that scored Jordan Climpson.

Both pitchers settled in for a while, resulting in a scoreless third, fourth and fifth inning. Cameron put together a three run sixth inning to take a 5-3 lead. After getting runners on first and second, Tobin Mateychick bunted a ball to the third baseman to sacrifice the runners over, but a wild throw to first allowed both runners to score and Mateychick to reach third. Climpson then drove in Mateychick on a single just over the first baseman's head for the third run of the inning.

The Aggies put two more on the board in inning number seven, as Climpson drove in his second RBI of the game, which was followed up with another RBI single, this time by Williams.

After allowing another WT run in the top of the eighth, CU added an insurance run in their half of the inning on a Codey McElroy double that scored Kas Sanders, making it 8-3.

Cameron's starter, Brian Schwabe earned his fourth win of the season as he went eight innings, gave up two earned runs on eight hits, and struck out six Buffs in the process. While not a save situation, Josh Neilson came in and shot the door in the ninth, striking out the side to end the game.

The loss went to the Buff's Dylan James, who is now 8-3 on the year, after going six innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits and striking out seven Ags.

Williams led the Aggies, going 3-4 with two RBI, while Climpson was 2-3 with two RBI and a run scored, and Mateychick was 2-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Additionally, Harold Cannon also collected two hits, while going 2-5 on the day and scoring a run.

The win moves Cameron to 18-27 overall and gives them a 12-20 Lone Star Conference record, while WT's loss puts them at 32-16 and 20-13 in the LSC.

The two teams will finish up the series with a double header Saturday, with game one set to start at 1 p.m.
