McElroy and Cannon power CU's comeback to split with West Texas A&M

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAWTON, Okla. – Codey McElroy hits three home runs as Harold Cannon hits a walk-off two run homerun in game two to power the Aggie baseball team to a split of a double header with West Texas A&M Saturday afternoon.

It was not a good day to be a pitcher, as balls were flying out of the park left and right. The two teams combined for 56 runs, 70 hits, and 13 homeruns in the double dip.

In game one, WT scored first, but CU came right back and put two runs on the board in their half of the first, thanks to both McElroy and Cannon driving in runs. However, the Buffs struck for three runs in the second, two runs in the third, and two runs in the fourth to make it 8-2 going into the bottom of the fourth.

The Aggies got two back in inning number four, as an error and a fielder's choice RBI resulted in three runs.

Both teams had big innings in the fifth, with WT striking first for seven in their half, but the Aggies came up with a five spot in the bottom of the inning, three of which coming from a Brandon Raidy three run homer.

While, both teams scored a single run in the sixth, the deficit was too much to come back from, and CU lost game one 16-11.

West Texas looked to have control of game two from the get go, scoring 10 runs in the first three innings. Cameron got their first three runs of the contest in the bottom of the third, via McElroy's first homer.

The Buffs would score single runs in the next four innings, while CU struck for another five spot in the fourth, thanks to a pair of RBI doubles from Cole Williams and Kas Sanders, and another three RBI homer by McElroy, his second of the game. The Aggies would score another run in the seventh via a Dalton Hilliard pinch hit single.

From there, Ryan Daspin came in and shut the Buffs down in the eighth and ninth, holding them scoreless. Cameron began their comeback in the eighth, with McElroy hitting is third homer to make it 14-10. Back to back RBI singles by Brad Blumer and Jordan Climpson cut the deficit to two.

The CU half of the ninth started with a pinch hit walk by Cody Knight, and then was pinch ran for by Dillon Leveille. Leveille then moved over to third on a failed pickoff attempt that resulted in an error by the pitcher. However, he would get caught off the base on a Raidy grounder to the third baseman and get tagged out on the play, with Raidy reaching second. Raidy then came around to score a Sanders RBI single, making it 14-13 with one out. After McElroy grounded into a fielder's choice, with Sanders getting thrown out at second on the play, Cannon jacked a long fly ball to left center field to plate the tying and winning runs on a walk-off homerun.

McElroy's three round-trippers tied a Lone Star Conference record for homeruns in a game. On the day, he was 6-10 with eight RBI and six runs scored.

Additionally, Sanders recorded five hits, three runs, and two RBI, Cannon recorded four hits, three runs, and three RBI, and Raidy had four RBI, on two hits and three runs scored.

The split moves WT to 33-17 overall and 21-14 in LSC play, while the Aggies conclude their season with a 19-28 record, going 13-21 in conference.

Before the double header began, Cameron honored their 13 seniors, who played in their last game for the black and gold this afternoon.
